Man accuses gym of sexism after he was kicked out for wearing tiny speedo

Last edited Thu Jan 16, 2014, 07:02 PM - Edit history (1)

(WJBK) - Brad Cieslowski, a 29-year-old body builder, was kicked out of the Novi Lifetime Fitness Saturday for wearing a swimsuit referred to as 'inappropriate.' He says that was sexist.

Cieslowski says he has worn the speedo at the gym before and no one ever said anything about it, but apparently several gym-goers complained to staff members Saturday night.

"He says, 'We can all see it.' And I said, 'Well then stop staring. No one's making you look at it,'" says Cieslowski. He says when he stood his ground and defended himself the employee threatened to call the police, so Cieslowski left.

"I can say the same thing about all the women around this pool in their bikinis and their one-pieces, showing off every nook and cranny of their body leaving nothing to the imagination but their skin color. ... I'm not allowed to be myself and wear what I want to wear and it's ridiculous, and it's incredibly sexist," he believes.

It takes a certain mindset to walk around publicly in speedo's. I have a friend that would come by my house wearing them when I lived by the beach, was quite obscene. He rather heavily endowed and it looked like he had a grapefruit stuffed in his drawers.

Apparently, Mister Wonderful's choice of clothing was perhaps transparent when wet?

Lifetime Fitness released this statement in response to the situation:

"We acknowledge there are various types of swim attire... however we have a two-layer house code. In this instance, multiple members registered concerns rooted in discomfort and as a result the decision was reached to ask the member to leave the pool area."

Cieslowski says he was not aware of the two-layer rule prior to the incident, and says he will comply. He also says he feels better now after talking with the general manager, who he says apologized for how the situation was handled.

The Europeans are much more amenable to testicular display. It's always interesting at places with an international clientele to see the contrast between the US guys with the big shorts that sometimes even go below the knees and the Euro guys with their tiny little briefs flaunting their packages.

A small flash of color barely containing a few grapes, beneath a hair-covered belly that looks like it's carrying triplets! From the rear, the view is of two dented grapefruits constrained by spandex, below a back that looks like a winter sweater that was mistakenly tossed in with the washing!

Greece, France, Spain, Portugal....they certainly do wear less...but perhaps they shouldn't, some of them! And that goes for the women as well as the men!

I can't help but notice when you see these scenes of Euro summer fun in the films, everyone is trim, tanned and taut. Youth is poppin' out all over, and even the older folks are "well preserved." The reality is quite different---there's a lotta baggin'-n-saggin' happening over that way as well. The "who gives a crap" attitude is a bit refreshing, but sometimes, even a little glance is just way too much. Some things just cannot be unseen...!

What a silly story. His swimsuit looks like the equivalent of a T-shirt that will soon be wet.

Jeebus -- of all the thing, THIS is a problem?

3 hour work out; check.
dip in the hot tub; check;
He's a victim? Uncheck.

ETA: his modeling his underwear disguised as swim wear for the reporter was a special touch.

They said it was not sanitary and I'd have to obtain a smaller swimsuit. Everyone in the pool either had a speedo type or bikini (some ladies were topless) But even in France that thing he was wearing would be unsanitary. Too much fabric and not tight enough to control the flapping.

Men, even in France, were required to secure their junk.

wearing Burqa's.

If I were so inclined to go to a gym and work out, the first thing I'd probably consider before going there is that if you have worked hard to have a good body, you're probably going to want to show that off. That's a given. The problem isn't his gym shorts, the problem is people who can't keep their minds on their own business. Women who are in shape tend to wear very form fitting clothes to the gym. Just because you can't see skin doesn't make it any less "provocative."
