Sunday, February 2 at 12/11c
Kitten Bowl is the greatest feline showdown in cable television history. The competition will consist of two preliminary playoffs and a championship match. Along with basic obstacle courses of hurdles, tunnels, hoops, jumps, weave poles, lasers, lures and toys on strings, Kitten Bowl will feature clever locker room strategies, player profiles and interviews, and camera work and audio recordings from the athletes as they play the game!
This inaugural three-hour special event, in Association with North Shore Animal League America, will be hosted by TV personality and activist Beth Stern, and emceed by John Sterling, the legendary radio voice of the New York Yankees.
All of the kittens participating in the competition are guaranteed forever homes through Hallmark Channels partnership with North Shore Animal League America whose innovations in animal welfare have saved more than 1,000,000 pets and counting! Kitten Bowl guarantees the 60-70 kitten participants will join the list of pets adopted into loving homes and will significantly raise the awareness of the plight of shelter animals across the country.

(33,224 posts)They put a bunch of puppies on a lawn, dress them up in uniforms or something, give them dog toys and anthropomorphize it into some sort of uber-cute sporting contest? As I understand it, this is a short program, that is played back to back for people who really must watch something on TV on Superbowl Sunday, but are avoiding CBS out of principle?
Advertisers then purchase air-time on this show and viewers purchase those products?
I get that lots of people are uninterested in football, or sports in general, but I don't get "the puppy bowl" as a) entertaining or b) effective protest or c) a better use of time than house cleaning.
Yeah, I got rid of my cable, so I'm watching the show at a friends house.

(14,691 posts)you have to like puppies. I'm watching the Puppy Bowl because it's just mindless fun to watch puppies play.
P.S. They don't wear uniforms.

(20,043 posts)I love football. I hate when the season ends. It's just drabby cold weather after football. I start to get excited again around July.
Getting my stuff together for my fantasy team around then too.
I also like basketball and baseball but nearly as much as FOOTBALL....we've started watching soccer too.

(12,665 posts)We are big sports fans. I, too, get a bit depressed with just the cold and snow after the SB.
But, we are (gasp!!) (everyone else close your eyes) Nascar fans so we got Daytona coming soon. Then, March Madness. Etc., etc.
Sports is year round entertainment.

(18,402 posts)Even though it's gotten kind of bad this year. But I don't watch football. Hubby watches it a little, but usually not a whole game. He'd pick Downton Abbey over the game, however.
I will watch the half time, though!

(51,076 posts)The super bowl. To day I'll be putting on some country style pork ribs on the big green egg using our own special blend of herbs and spices. Let them cook in a covered corning ware dish for about 4 maybe 5 hours and I'm here to tell you they will melt in your mouth. I'll be using Pecan wood for smoke.
I'll start off with the dish uncovered for the first 30 minutes to get a good smoke flavor then I'll cover them and let them cook at about 200 degrees for the duration.
My wife enjoys the game as much as I do. She played in the band and was a baton twirler in high school. We really enjoy the games.

(28,498 posts)And I played over 11 years of organized sports from age 8-19: baseball, football, track/field & cross country; and college handball, so I like sports. I just prefer to play than watch someone else play.
My idea of a good time "watching" sports is to attend a track & field meet. There's always something going on! Always something to watch. And I prefer to watch "live" since TeeVee does such a lousy job covering track & field meets.
And "yes"--we got rid of cable in 1996, so tonight, I'll be watching a selection from our DVD collection...
