Media Blacks Out New Snowden Interview The Government Doesn’t Want You to See

http://benswann.com/media-blacks-out-new-snowden-interview-the-government-doesnt-want-you-to-see

This past Sunday evening former NSA contractor Edward Snowden sat down for an interview with German television network ARD. The interview has been intentionally blocked from the US public, with virtually no major broadcast news outlets covering this story. In addition, the video has been taken down almost immediately every time it’s posted on YouTube.

In contrast, this was treated as a major political event in both print and broadcast media, in Germany, and across much of the world. In the interview, Mr. Snowden lays out a succinct case as to how these domestic surveillance programs undermines and erodes human rights and democratic freedom.

He states that his “breaking point” was “seeing Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, directly lie under oath to Congress” denying the existence of a domestic spying programs while under questioning in March of last year. Mr. Snowden goes on to state that, “The public had a right to know about these programs. The public had a right to know that which the government is doing in its name, and that which the government is doing against the public.”

It seems clear that the virtual blackout of this insightful interview is yet another deliberate attempt to obfuscate the truth from the view of the American public. The media has continually attempted to shill the official government lies about mass domestic surveillance programs ..............

President Obama agreed that the surveillance is a topic that should be discussed nationally. So why is Snowden's statement being shunned? Seems to me that he is a big part of the discussion.

My question is how can we justify spending so much money on this surveillance when the NSA cannot point to having netted one single terrorist due to their spying on Americans?

And a second question is when will the NSA declare victor over terrorism and stop the surveillance? What are the benchmarks?

And what will all the unemployed NSA folks do for a living when they have killed all the terrorists?

Will they end the surveillance? Will they find some other excuse for spying on law-abiding Americans?

Those are some of my questions about this.

I now have a more complete background on who Edward Snowden is, why he chose certain paths (within the CIA and Special Forces) and what his purpose was at that time in trying to direct his career. At age 30, is it logical to see his rationale of what served the citizenry of foreign countries? I would only be in a position to know the answer if I had that expertise.

Making no mistake about his expertise on spying… he has it. He articulates what he can in this interview and based on that, plus a moral compass, I not only understand better what he meant in earlier statements, I believe I understand better why he did what he did.

I find his last statement regarding the invitation to return to the U.S. to face the felony charges he is invited to defend even more interesting. What he is accused of doesn't really offer the accused any due process (as the 3 felonies fall under espionage act, and have nothing to do with journalistic whistle blowing, but more to do with crimes for which there is no return from punishment). He'd be crazy to return under those circumstances.

for taking down YouTubes for copyright violations. Exclusive interviews have value and that is being protected by those who produced this.

Some people have an axe to grind with the "media" instead of simply realizing that they are the media today. Others are simply paranoid if not bat-shit. But, wow, does that thread get the hits instead of this one with the real deal.

I think there is a cognitive dissonance amongst Americans on the issue of whistle blowing domestic and mind blowing foreign intelligence breaches.

To learn of "what our boys were doing" was as if we somehow could distrust "other" governments, but not our own. It's like holding one's hands over one's hears and yelling, "nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah! I don't want to hear this!!!"

So, when it's made more clear (as in this interview), look at the response here on DU.

Did anyone really want to see this or discuss what was just presented? This sure boggles my mind.
