So when your car can talk to other cars/other entities on the road, what are you going to do?

This type of OnStar on steroids technology is coming. You can count on it. The insurance companies will want it. Badly.

Feds may require cars to 'talk' to each other
Paul A. Eisenstein, NBC News contributor

Federal regulators want your car to be able to talk to others on the road in a bid to reduce motor vehicle crashes and to help motorists avoid traffic jams.

After years of study, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday it will begin taking steps that could eventually require all new cars and trucks to be equipped with so-called vehicle-to-vehicle, or V2V, technology, calling it a key to saving lives while also improving traffic flow in major urban areas.

...snip...

At its most basic, V2V technology could be used to pass information about weather and traffic conditions from one vehicle to the next, alerting a driver, for example, to take a detour around a tie-up or when roads are icy. The technology could be used to signal motorists when a driver runs a stoplight, giving them time to hit their brakes.

The technology also could be linked to local roadway systems to get even more detailed information about road and weather conditions. Meanwhile, a vehicle equipped with the technology could also get alerts to where the driver might find an open parking spot in a crowded downtown.

...snip.

Not that I drive much anymore--I mostly am able to take public transit and walk.

But in general, whatever I have to communicate with other drivers falls under the rubric of "sailor talk." I'd say the word "asshole" is among the most commonly uttered terms.

Remember what George Carlin had to say about drivers. There are two kinds. So my car would be equipped to tell other drivers that they are either "idiots" or "maniacs." Of course, I'm all right, Jack

Play on their f#$king phone the whole damn time. People on the whole have a difficult time driving. This may at least help them become better drivers.

will it turn me in. Add this to automatic braking and back up cameras the roads could indeed get safer.

"So when your car can talk to other cars/other entities on the road, what are you going to do?"

I imagine many who fear the potentials and advances of automotive and safety technology will begin taking horseback riding lessons (forget dressage though, it's all for show-- like SUVs and Hummers), and purchase older horses lacking current GPS navigation.
