Why does it feel like this is where we're heading?
-- All taxes will come from payroll, and sales tax on food and clothing. Corporate taxes, capital gains taxes, inheritance taxes will end.
-- All social safety net programs will end.
-- All tax revenues will be used to directly subsidize the wealthy, to protect corporatations and their profits, and the property of the wealthy.
-- The Judicial Branch of government will be privatized. No-bid contracts will be given to corporations that will provide "judges" and "juries".
-- All candidates for Legislative and Executive Branches of government will be selected by Wall Street firms. The People will be allowed to "vote" on these candidates, but the running of elections will be privatized. Again, no-bid contracts will be the rule.
-- Election processing methodologies will be classified as "proprietary information" and not available to the public. Winners will be announced during half-time of the Super Bowl.
-- Protesting these policies will be classified as terrorism, punishable by permanent incarceration. Habeas corpus will not apply.

It's that simple.

(84,711 posts)these days is very difficult. Until we fix "Citizens United" Decision...there's little hope of change except for a few bread crumbs on social issues.
We need to work harder on exposing the corruption and demanding change. Our small donations have been outweighed by the Corporate money for decades now. But, far worse since Supremes decided Corporation Personhood.

(146,309 posts)Get involved in the process that selects candidates. That's what I do. Tuesday, I had a conversation with the incumbent state legislator for my district at our precinct caucus meeting. I had questions about his positions on some issues. He answered my questions in a way that assured me.
Before the primary elections here in MN, I will have participated in the endorsement process for DFL candidates in my districts, both state and federal. In that process, I will have talked to each of them, as I do every election year. Before the November election, I will have spoken person to person to every DFL party candidate on my ballot. I ask questions and tell them what my positions are. From city council members to my US Senators, I've spoken in person to each one of them.
They come to caucuses and conventions. I buttonhole them in hallways and elsewhere. They don't mind. They know my name. I campaign for them.
If you want to talk to your elected officials, you need to get involved at a level where you have the chance to do so.
Activism means being active.
