Amy knows the US has no media.

We have a corporate controlled propaganda machine. (We can thank Edward Bernays)

Deregulation caused this problem.(We can thank Bill Clinton)

Monopolies of the media caused this problem.(We can thank our corrupt politicians)

Our corrupt government enacting the legislation that allowed this to happen caused this problem.

Independent media is the way to go.

Now if the corrupt US government takes control the internet, our independent media will disappear.

they're owned by the 1%.

If you mean both sides of the aisle in govt. serves the 1%, I think that's something else.

This is the one I worry about most. Corporatization and consolidation of the media. The root of so many of our problems lies right there.

of what we care about? We spend more time and money consuming media than any other activity. We pay any price they demand to get what we feel is important, distraction from our lives.

I'm not excusing this abominable situation at all, and the media corps are among the very worst, but it us that keeps pouring ever more money into their pockets so we won't miss the next Dancing With The Stars (or whatever show is still on).
