Amid ethics investigation, Rep. Andrews is leaving the House next week

WASHINGTON — Representative Robert E. Andrews announced on Tuesday that he would resign from Congress after more than two decades, but said it had nothing to do with a bleak outlook for Democratic chances of retaking the House or with an ethics investigation into alleged misuse of his campaign funds.

Andrews claims that he's resigning because he has two kids to put through college and can't afford to stay in Congress. Never mind that he has an income of around $350,000 a year now.

“I frankly would have benefited enormously from Democrats being back in the majority,” he said, adding that at 56, deciding to “stick it out until we get back into the majority” might cost him precious years in improving his family’s finances."

A shame. Democrats are leaving in droves because they don't think they will pick up the House. I just hope these are safe districts so we don't lose more than what we have right now.

But hopefully the seat will stay Democratic. It is in New Jersey, so it's more likely to remain.
