Tomorrow night a really bad weather system is going to start moving through here, just in case you haven't been paying attention to weather.
What will start as snow in the northern suburbs on Tuesday (up to 7 inches as near as Gainesville, GA!!) but will switch over to freezing rain Tuesday night, continuing for Wednesday. The frozen rain covers all of Atlanta, and the metro area.
There will be enough freezing rain accumulation to take down trees (and power lines) so please prepare for the possible loss of power and heat.
And, STAY HOME!!!!!!!!

(3,182 posts)I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday which has been re-scheduled 4 times already. My prescriptions are out of refills and I need to get to the doctor to get them re-written.
I really HOPE they're wrong this time.
on edit:
But, I'm right on that line where they're predicting 7 inches of snow. As you well know, 7 inches of snow in Georgia is a friggin blizzard!

(7,580 posts)but the ice on top of it is going to make any kind of movement...human or otherwise.....down right dangerous..please be very very careful if you venture outside

(3,182 posts)There's simply no way to move around on ice. Even a tiny amount of ice is dangerous and trees snapping like toothpicks because of the ice is a frightening experience.
If you've ever heard tree after tree coming apart because of the weight of ice, it's a sound that is unmistakable and terrifying.
I'm certain anyone from PA can give us quite a detailed explanation of what last week was like for them with an ice storm.

(3,182 posts)There's a facebook page of republicans in my county where just today they posted yet ANOTHER story about the fake Obama snow.
I'm not going to link to it because 1) it's Facebook and 2) it's an embarrassment just to let anyone know live in a county where people are so nasty and ugly.

(3,182 posts)it's been warm the last couple of days, so the ground is warmer than last week when we had so many frigid days ahead of that snow.
However, that means the snow is going to become slush and then the temps drop below freezing so after dark it all turns to ice. Then, ice is supposed to fall on top of it.........YIKES! In the dark.
This one is very likely to be far more dangerous to life and limb and not just "inconvenient."
In addition, once the cold sets in, it's not likely to warm up again until Friday, so we're in a multi day event.
