Iraq war vet Tammy Duckworth wins Democratic primary, challenging teabagger Joe "Deadbeat Dad" Walsh

She and Elizabeth Warren are the two I'm rooting for most in the battle for Congress
---

Tammy Duckworth’s win in Tuesday’s Democratic primary in a northwest suburban congressional district sets up what could be one of the nation’s most high-profile contests in November against freshman Republican Rep. Joe Walsh.

The outspoken Walsh is a favorite of national Tea Party activists, but Duckworth — who lost her legs in a combat helicopter crash in Iraq — long has been a rising star among the state’s powerful Democrats. Her status grew Tuesday with her victory against Raja Krishnamoorthi, a former deputy state treasurer.

With two-thirds of the vote counted, Duckworth had 66 percent of the vote to Krishnamoorthi’s 34 percent.

At about 9:30 p.m., Duckworth declared victory, saying Krishnamoorthi had called her and conceded the race.

“We are on our way to take on Joe Walsh,” said Duckworth, in a skirt that revealed her two prosthetic legs — one decorated in red, white and blue, the other wrapped in camouflage. Duckworth, who took the stage with the aid of a cane, made reference to her military experience: “I’m only here today because of my buddies in Iraq, and now every day I strive to be worthy of their effort.”

Also, anyone who is delinquent on child support should not be allowed to run for office.

I couldn't imagine a greater contrast between these 2 candidates for the office. One - a deadbeat dad and all around scumbag - and a woman who has given mightily for this country. Joe should save everyone the effort and simply concede now.

But, I do believe for her district she has a better chance of winning in the general than her primary opponent.

Go Tammy!!!! She'd make an excellent representative of any district. I'm not rich and have some money put into nationwide races already. I wish I could help her too!!!!

I will donate to her when I can... Her website needs someone qualified to help make it better, it has not been updated recently. I wanted to see a picture of her BAD ASS flag and camo legs. I am sure she is very busy actually being the candidate, but a better website will help with $$$. Maybe someone around here with some skills could...help a sister out.

It will be so sweet as she wipes the floor with the DEADBEAT DAD from now until November!!!

She was uncomplicated, straightforward, smart, didn't make a big deal of her injuries, but didn't hide them either.
Her mom is Thai, which accounts for her Asian features. I asked. She didn't appear to be a firebrand activist,
but was, for obvious reasons, concerned with the Bush administration (this was 2006, remember) not giving
a crap about vets who needed help when they came back from the Middle East. She walks with some difficulty,
but thinks with none. She was a newbie in her 2006 race against a Republican scumbag who accused Tammy,
of all people, of being a "cut and run" Democrat where the guy had never served himself. The climate has
changed, needless to say. I think she gets in this time.
