Freepers are going off about Obama wanting to take everyone's retirement

and trade it in for US Bonds. I haven't heard anything about this, but they are riled up this afternoon about it. I'm going on Snopes, but thought you all could set me straight.

Clinton DID 'borrow' the Social Security funds. They remain unpaid to date. That's why someone can say the program is in trouble.

I'm rubber you're glue. Everything the Repukes are doing like the war on women, they are trying to say the Democrats are the ones doing it. More lies more than likely.

Strange, but you'd think spellcheck would have informed them better.

Wait, what am I saying?

They consider spellcheck to be a tool of 'effete, liberal snobs,' you know.

Sooo, they do have jobs - now....working? Maybe not so much

These guys invest in guns, ammo, gold, and stocks, and talk conservative politics or hunting most of the day. I can't wait until they retire. They're about 10yrs my senior so they'll hopefully be outta there before I'm ready to retire. I wanted to be able to come back with something that sounded like I knew what they were talking about if I got cornered at the coffee machine.

Is that sufficiently straight?

that explains the potential should such a thing actually happen. I had not thought of that. Good counter-point.

I think this was stimulated by the Executive Order he wrote re: 'war/peace funding'. As in, the government COULD seize all property for the 'cause' of war.

Since I didn't, I bet most people don't follow this claim to its logical conclusion.

Reading everyone's replies has helped.

I've been concentrating on dealing with 'friends' who all think the attack on women is just fine, all jails should be run like Arapio (sp?) runs his, and that he is a great leader and community servant who should be used as a role model. UGH!!!

in various forms is that the gov't is going to confiscate everyone's private retirement accounts and all pension funds. Is that what they're going on about?

Pat Boone is on an ad directed at senior citizens, telling them that Claire McCaskill is trying to take away their Medicare, and about some board that sounds suspiciously like "death panels." I've yet to hear a peep from the McCaskill campaign about this, or really any other attack ad directed at her. Seems like Pat Boone is either immorally scaring the crap out of elderly people, or else trying to get them to buy into those gold schemes.
