No, this isn't parody. this is our country. these are the corporations that own our country and dictate our laws.
Who says theres no corporate responsibility these days? When two natural gas wells in Dunkard Township or maybe it was Bobtown Pennsylvania, exploded last week and burned for five days, injuring one worker and leaving another missing and presumed dead, the good folks at Chevron were quick to offer the people of the town whichever town it is a little something to say Were sorry for the explosion and fire in whichever town you live in: Theyre distributing letters of apology and a nice coupon for a free large pizza (and 2-liter bottle of soda) to about 100 households in the town of Bobtown, or maybe Dunkard Township.
You have to admit that its a very nice gesture.
The letter delivered to residents reads,
Dear Neighbor,
We are sorry to have missed you. We wanted to provide you with a status update on the February 11 incident that occurred on Chevrons Appalachias Lanoce 7 H well pads in Dunkard Township and see if you had any questions or concerns that we could address.
Chevron recognizes the effect this has had on the community. We value being a responsible member of this community and will continue to strive to achieve incident-free operations. We are committed to taking action to safeguard our neighbors, our employees, our contractors and the environment.
If you have any questions, please call our toll free community line at 1-877- [redacted because we aren't trolls -- Dok Z]
Thank you,
Chevron Community Outreach Team

(9,033 posts)when I was growing up in Colorado in the 1960s. Turned out they were disposing of waste water from the Rocky Mtn Arsenal* (chemical weapons) by pumping it down a deep well in NE Denver. Oddly, they figured out pretty quickly what was going on--and stopped. Now, though, these earthquakes are a huge and insolvable mystery.

(50,949 posts)I mentioned that in front of a Tea Bagger family member, who laughed as if what I was saying was completely ridiculous.
The fix is in.
Here is the really horrible part: I am actually hoping the first acute disaster from all this (because the whole thing is an ongoing disaster) happens soon, so that people's eyes will be opened sooner. And the acute disaster will have to be something like an undeniable cancer cluster, or a major earthquake in a populated area.
The fact that that is the best scenario I can envision about fracking is gruesome.

I'd hate to see what would happen to allow people to get buffalo wings with pizza and pop.
