Premeditated self-defense.
You plan your response based on what you think will happen in any given situation. That depends on your frame of reference and imagination.

It 's the "Looking-glass defense" because it belongs in Wonderland!

1. It Is A Bit Colder Than That, Sir

The people who commit these murders, like Dunn and Zimmerman, are consciously looking for an opportunity to shoot someone, and the combination of easy permits for carrying weapons and relaxed standards for employment of deadly force in self-defense enable them to carry out fantasies of lethal power they have been nursing for years. They spend a fair amount of each day rehearsing in their minds what they will say, how they will describe a situation, in order to make their killing seem to conform to the newly lax standards of the law; they run movie-scripts through their heads of how the 'punk' will say this or that menacing phrase, make this or that threatening motion, and leave them 'no choice' but to do what they have been dreaming of doing most of their waking lives.

3. True.

This is the faux term that I think they have in mind to separate it from premeditated murder. This is in their minds to justify what they do.

It's murder plain and simple but I think this could be a certain rationalization.

5. I think it is a little simpler than that

At least with these two. Neither of these two would have had the balls to come within striking distance or even BOTHER to say anything in their situation if neither of them had a portable spinal column ball-sac replacement option (firearm at hand).

They are craven cowards who need to have the bullet do their speaking because they lack confidence in their intellect and physical skills required for the fist-fight they were initiating and, being the cowards they were, pulled their portable manliness enhancement devices and murdered a person they started a fight with.

No gun, no interaction for these two individuals.

However, cowards acting behind the shield of a weapon will not end with gun control.

And these two do not justify a generalization of gun carriers. These two are the extreme (and the publicized).
