US President Obama is here in Toluca.
We saw a large plane fly over earlier, there are no other planes allowed so it may have been him.
Pena Nieto has handled this very badly and as a result people here are directing their distaste for it at obama. It's really the hypocrisy of our own government.
Pena nieto is from here in mexico state, he was once governor and his friend eruvial avila is governor now. Mexico state is the most populated state but has the worst streets and a high indigenous population that are very poor.
For this visit streets that should have had potholes filled several years ago have been filled, flowers and gardens have been planted, for the last 5 days police are everywhere bothering people (still won't come if you call them), most bus drivers and taxi drivers not allowed to work , people not allowed to get to work, no cars older than 1995 allowed on the streets, schools and government offices shut down. All of this started saturday and goes through today. All a show put on to make pena nieto look good, but proof that he cares nothing for the people out of work for 5 days and poor that have old vehicles that can't even go into toluca or even use the bus system that he has crippled badly just to make it look like there is order on the streets.
Don't get me wrong, I know obama is not at fault in this in any way, but most people here are directing their angst at obama as well as pena nieto as they already know what pena nieto is like.
I just thought I would post some feelings "behind the scenes". Please take this as a comment on OUR president, not yours.
