Wal-Mart Considering Support Of Federal Minimum Wage Hike

Wal-Mart Considering Support Of Federal Minimum Wage Hike

The nation's biggest retailer said Wednesday it was considering supporting a federal minimum wage hike as advocated by the Obama administration.

A Wal-Mart spokesman told Bloomberg it was "looking" at the increase, which would boost the income of millions of people that shop at the company's stores.

“That’s something we’re looking at. Whenever there’s debates, it’s not like we look once and make a decision. We look a few times from other angles," David Tovar said in a phone interview.

President Obama's proposal to lift the minimum wage to from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 an hour ran into some resistance this week after a CBO report claimed it could cost 500,000 jobs while increasing the earnings of 16.5 million low-wage workers.

The White House disputed the report's analysis of minimum wage hikes on employment, however.

This is how you win the war after it is clear that you've lost the battle.

So many suckers, so much TV.

I did work at Walmart in 1995 for the Summer. I was being paid 6.25 and thought I was rich as anything...it was a second job so of course it was extra money. However, to think that they only have gone up a dollar in almost 20 years is amazing. I don't think I was getting minimum wage but still that is amazing.

because people are so poor they can't afford to shop there.
Eventually the right has to see they have put the country in a self district mode.

clearly in response to PBOs challenge and plea to private industry. Do I hear a bid from Target? Costco is already there.

It's an awful lot like LGBT rights. Once the proverbial barn door is opened by some brave souls (PBO and Michael Sam come to mind, along with many others) it's hard to close it again.

We should be supporting the fact they are even looking at it. If nothing else, it will be great PR...and I agree that they need it.
