Sister Megan Rice; victim of oppressive government or heroic warrior for peace?

I'm not sure how people should direct their emotions in the case of Sr. Megan. She is not a victim. She knew full well the possible outcome of her "plowshares" action and life in prison is the continuation of that same action.

All of the "Oh, the humanity!" "How can they do this" and whatever just dilute the power of what Sr. Megan did. Find some other outlet for your outrage. If you agree with her position write editors, congresscritters, presidents, judges that inspired by the "plowshares" actions you stand with them. March, chant, make signs but stop making this hero a victim.

In her closing statement, Rice asked the judge to sentence her to life in prison, even though sentencing guidelines called for about six years.

“Please have no leniency with me,” she said. “To remain in prison for the rest of my life would be the greatest gift you could give me.”
