how to feed our kids and change the world
over the last few months, we have seen on du a number of disgusting stories about students actually having their lunches taken away from them because of delinquent accounts, etc. a number of posters suggested that, given the "richest and bestest country in the whole world", we might do a better job of feeding our kids.
the other night, I happened to catch part of "cafeteria man" about tony geraci, formerly in charge of baltimore's school foods program, and how he worked to make it so much better. in the film, I also learned about the farm to school nationwide network, whose goal is also to bring good, locally sourced fresh, good food to our children.
it was encouraging to see how much progress is being made on this effort, but so very much more needs to be done.
