FEMA is the new F word! Really?
I guess the federal government forced Christie to give money to housing projects unrelated to Sandy, they were behind putting the arm on the Hoboken mayor for support of a Wolff & Samson project, hired the contractors who screwed everything up. That's the party of personal responsibility for you. If something goes wrong, somebody else is personally responsible!
No, the state of NJ is the expert when it comes to disaster aid, right? It's always somebody else letting the "big man" down.

(9,462 posts)"She said though she had the maximum flood insurance policy on her house, she only received $90,000 to cover damage to the structure and contents."
Okay, so you throw something out there that looks bad, but give us the facts Christie. Why was it only 90k? Is that because that's what the estimated replacement value is?
Christie also says this woman only received 90k to cover damage to structure and contents. What he doesn't say is whether she had coverage for both structure and contents to begin with. His statement doesn't say the 90k is a settlement for both, it says that's her settlement and she needs to replace both.
For those who don't understand, you can have structure only flood insurance or both. Flood insurance when it included contents is much, much higher than structure alone.
Also, Christie is criticizing FEMA, but then talks about the National Flood Insurance Program. What's up with that?
Also, FEMA may have forced a grant to go towards housing not affected by the areas. it could have been designed to make housing available as quickly as possible. It saves money in the long run because it keeps people out of expensive hotels and temporary housing. Rebuilding housing inside the flood zone takes longer because they have to rebuild the infrastructure at the same time. I don't know if that's the case here, but since he doesn't give details it might be.

Assbite that he is. I knew pukes like him when I was growing up in the Northeast, one thing I don't miss about being there. Mind you, there are things I still love about the area, that's just not one of them.

(2,419 posts)being deliberately deceptive here. FEMA flood insurance payments come from a completely different source and pot of money than the billions he has been treating as a slush fund. Just a despicable human being. The folks from FEMA are consummate professionals, disparaging them is an easy excuse since they can't fight back. The system has a number of shortcomings but helping out in a time of crisis isn't one of them.

(9,462 posts)got 80k go without challenge or scrutiny. As you mentioned, the Flood Insurance program is an insurance program. What was this woman insured for? If she was insured for 80k then the media needs to rip this claim to shreds. Is the problem that she would have better coverage (meaning contents) if the premiums weren't so high? There are a lot of questions and possibly weaknesses in the flood insurance program, but for Christie to make unqualified statements like that and then the media to give him a pass is a travesty of reporting.
Christie is doing the typical Republican dog whistle campaign points. The problem is the federal government, the problem is red tape, don't worry about facts....

(2,419 posts)what life is like when you never make a mistake and are never the one to blame! Folks from FEMA who are experts in responding to disasters all over the country don't know what they're doing. Its Christie who is the expert. His administration bungles the recovery and it was only caused by someone else's incompetence. Did Bridget Kelly work for FEMA too?
I'm not feeling real good today so I'm having a tough time concentrating, but this is just making by head explode. Is there an exploding head smilie?

Oh, and about FEMA, Obama put FEMA back as a cabinet level position and took it out from under Dept of Homeland Security. There is also a head who has experience in the area.

(2,419 posts)I meant to go lay down but have gotten sucked into this once again! I just can't get past my anger at Christie. He once famously said that the politicians he prosecuted deserved to be shamed because they claimed to be something they weren't. Odd observation since he seems to fit that definition to a tee.

(2,419 posts)except that just hurts the people who suffered from Sandy. This is just somewhere into the Jake & Elwood excuse territory. You know, an old friend just came in from out of town, my tux didn't come back from the cleaners....It wasn't my fault! Oh please don't kill me! This guy has got to go.

Fucking Ingrate does not adequately describe that son of a bitch.
And what is with that camera placement (which I assume was setup by his office) to constantly show his big fat ass?
