forty thousand XL protesers in Washington DC this Sunday

Around 40,000 people gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Sunday to give President Obama a clear message: the Keystone XL pipeline isn’t welcome here.

The four-hour event began at the Washington Monument, where politicians and leaders of various eco-groups gave motivational speeches to the crowd.

“We have an obligation to our one true Mother,” said Crystal Lameman, a Beaver Lake Cree Nation activist. “We take care of her, she’ll take care of us, providing and nurturing. But when we ignore that and choose greed and wealth and economy that is not stable, she will fight back.”

It happened immediately after the Wisconsin uprising in 2011. We got the reputation as a (and maybe THE) "go-to" spot for news and activist info ABOUT the uprising. After that, we started getting this influx of Democratic Corporatists trying to herd us into "approved" channels.

Democratic Corporatists who are not paid sock puppets too, but really believe in the neo-liberal claptrap that we've been fed from the leadership of BOTH parties for the last 40 years or so.

Either way, they're here to take away the bottom-up "people power" that we showed during that Wisconsin uprising. You can't have people getting involved in anything other than pulling that voting lever and maybe phone banking for the "serious ones" who know what's best for the rest of us. BTW, that last part was .

Power independent of Party affiliation is WAY too dangerous not to moderate.

On DU have been busy answering charges I am not aware that white people have had it better than other races in the US, fighting for the right to hold open a door without having to fill out a questionnaire first, and dodging covers of magazines because I don't know which ones to be upset about enough (actually, all photos are suspect now).

I doubt my Canadian friends would be all that welcome here. The are Indian and believe in all sorts of things here others call woo. From their own tribal medicine to 'being stupid/ignorant because they believe in invisible sky beings'.

The 'activism' on DU is trying to 'educate' other du'ers about things they already know about usually, or to try to shame them into a corner until they accept that there is only one possible religion, err belief, and that if you don't agree on every single point you hate others and don't care about their issues.

It is like a soap opera that others come here to watch. Whereas they used to come to get news and information and ideas.

We have seen the enemy on DU, and it is almost everyone on DU.

Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence.
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou...

Another mother's breakin'
Heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence,
We must be mistaken.

It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying..

The thing is, as I stated above, for all these years I've relied on DU as my go-to news source, and followed links to places like Democracy Now! when they appeared on DU posts.

But I always used to be able to count on DU having posts about events like big demonstrations before and as they were happening. Apparently, I need to adjust my internet habits these days, since DU is no longer a place where actual real-world activism can break through the clutter of 500-post internicine arguments.

Corporate media and corporate SIGs all but destroyed our right to be heard. You can protest all you want...but if it is not the RIGHT kind of protest, forgetaboutit. Never air.

YET if 10 tea party members get together in public, it is reported (on national news) as if 10,000 'patriots' took to the streets to voice protest against Obama.

We cannot win against corporate greed, sadly I think you know this as well as I do.

It changed my health dropping TVEE altogether. My blood pressure is way down. LBN is still a great place to get news from, MUCH better then any cable news channel will ever be. Sadly, a lot of activist are no longer with us or decided not to follow us over to DU3. Their reasons are their own...but I also think the Third Way SIGs have done their best to kill activism on this site and it has worked to an extent.

This is a self fulfilling prophesy imo - we are in Earth's 5th extinction cycle and if people DON'T want to take our environment seriously, I am sure it will accommodate the next species willing to evolve WITH the planet and not against it.

I've always thought man vs. nature was a losing debate and we shall see it unfold before our very own lying eyes.

Police arrested nearly 400 student-led demonstrators who marched to the White House on Sunday to protest against the Keystone XL pipeline.

Marching under the name XL Dissent, at least 500 students from across the United States demonstrated and engaged in acts of civil disobedience outside the White House.

After repeated warnings, police arrested demonstrators for "blocking passage" of sidewalks, Sgt. Lelani Woods of the U.S. Park Police told Al Jazeera. "We advised protesters of the outcome of the warnings, which would be an arrest. They decided to remain on the sidewalk, so the arrest process began," she said.

It's called national propaganda, the fear card, corporate media agendas, and hopes of war profiteering.

By now, Americas ought to be feeling sick to their collective stomach over being manipulated and used by our media and corporate masters and puppets. Even "liberal" blogs are promoting the fear card today, just before they go 100% Academy Awards this evening.
