Oklahoma law doesnt allow animal shelters to use firearms to euthanize animals. Instead, they use chemical injections or carbon monoxide gas.
I think (killing an animal by shooting) is as humane as taking them to a vet and having a needle put in their vein and being put to sleep, Martin said.
There are people in your family who have done that with a firearm. And I dont know who it is, whether its your uncle or your grandfather; someone in your family has done this.
Many animal rights advocates and other groups opposed the bill.

Actually, that was me.
I had a boxer that got very sick and I asked dad to put her down with his .45 handgun. I didn't have a gun and don't like them. Despite that, dad made me do it.

and probably more humane than with gas.
A well placed shot kills the animal instantly, so there is no suffering. How would that be inhumane? That said, I doubt many pet owners could bring themselves to shoot the family pet. I wouldn't be able to and I hunt.
