Charles Pierce burns the repigs to the ground

and pisses on the ashes:

<snip>

I am sick to death of people who celebrate "the family" making excuses about why other people's children are expendable. I am sick to death of politicians who are more concerned about protecting zygotes than about the teenagers on whom they seek to balance their budgets and advance their careers. (Barney Frank's line about conservatives's believing that life "begins at conception and ends at birth" was not entirely a joke, although it's always been treated as one.) I am sick to death of opportunistic yahoos who can look at this country's unhealthy attachment to firearms and declare that the actions of George Zimmerman, while unfortunate, were pretty much what the Founders had in mind. I am sick to death of the steady drip-drip-drip of all the topical anesthetics we mix up whenever something like this happens. Had Emmett Till been killed in 2012, there'd be at least three people sitting in the CNN Green Room right now — and probably 15 of them sitting offstage at Fox — waiting to explain how unfortunate it was that the lad so transgressed against local custom that circumstances dictated that he be beaten to a pulp and tossed into the river tied to a cotton-gin fan. I am sick to death about how we can argue about anything simply to argue about it, and then move along to the next argument, as though anything at all has been settled.

to go as viral as possible. And the Emmett Till comparison is spot-on; one of my first thoughts was that Martin is the Emmett Till of the 2st century, the parallels are striking. I couldn't believe on CNN the other night some asshole friend of Zimmerman was talking about how nice and congenial Zimmerman was, that if only Trayvon had responded appropriately this never would have happened, that Zimmerman was wounded and felt threatened by being beaten up and, the cherry on the bullshit sundae, that the police had done a complete and thorough investigation and backed Zimmerman 100% and that should be the end of it. I'm sure that if he'd been around during the Emmett Till torture and murder he'd have said something along the lines of, well, the kid should have looked down and not looked at the white woman he whistled at, shoulda just known his place and kept looking down, ya know? Fuckers, all of them.

You're sailing real close to heresy with that crack about this country's unhealthy attachment to firearms. Maybe you need a little refresher course in just how dangerous the world is, how suspicious everyone else is, and how hostile you're supposed to be towards them. The only approved answer to this triumvirate of trouble is more and better firepower. Please to be adjusting your punditry accordingly.

They are content with capital punishment and war. They see nothing wrong with children who are blown up by land mines.
They are fine with the millions of Iraqi orphans.

...because if they really were anti-abortion, they would be for sex education and contraceptives, both of which have been shown time and time again to reduce the rate of abortions. What they are is forced-birth: any woman (or girl for that matter) who finds herself pregnant for any reason, in any circumstance, and regardless of the condition of the fetus, must give birth.

Otherwise, you are spot-on that they are not pro-life at all.
