As the cult that grew up around them.
Her ideas appealed to the selfish and greedy amoung among us and they managed to convince too many that her ideas were somehow sane and workable.

No matter what you think of their methods, the Nazis believed they were acting out of a sense of altruism and compassion for the German nation and humanity when they murdered 12,000,000 people. In Objectivist ideology altruism doesn't exist, so a Randian would argue that this makes such atrocities impossible. A rational person understands that a nation might murder millions, once it convinces it's people that it's necessary. A nation needs a reason to commit mass murder. An individual without compassion can do the same on a whim, for nothing more than their own self-aggrandizement.

Objectivism is a political philosophy for sociopaths. The claim that it's a solution to our economic problems is like saying that getting liver cancer is a good way to lose weight.

She promotes selfishness and disdain for the the less fortunate and handicapped. Her ideas are completely inhuman.

So vile, in fact, that when push came to shove in her own life, Ayn couldn't live up (or down) to her own ideal, and went on government assistance. Well, she did it under another name so that she wouldn't be quite so embarrassed, but nonetheless.
