Right-wingnutz say that so-called "leftists" are Nazis, I say that most of these wingnutzs' politics resemble those of right-wing Latin American "banana republics" during the bad old days of Trujillo, Somoza, and the Guatemalan generals--the same blind worship of wealth and power, the same use of religion as a tool for social conformism, and the same hostility to either social advancement or political activism of the poor and repressed.

Back around the 2000 election and later on while Buckaroo Bush was in the White House, I used to call the GOP "Banana Republicans." The term may seem unfashionable these days, but it better describes right-wing political thought and actions far better than the political right's fraudulent attempt to co-opt the label of the men who defied the British by dumping the UK merchantilist state's tea into Boston Harbor.
