Because we only care about stories when they're sensationalized. The media is simply a reflection of the idiocy of the ourselves.

owns the media and they are for entertainment purposes only. If you want news ask your neighbor but be careful not to repeat it.

How he figures this, I have no idea.

I won't even bother reading what that asshole says.

Afghanistan, Syria, and smaller skirmishes elsewhere. There are tensions in Ukraine, Thailand, and elsewhere. Labor unrest in Vietnam, South Africa and elsewhere, but it's just so much goddamn fun to talk about the missing plane.

I've been trying to follow it, and I realized that there isn't any damned thing we know for sure beyond what was released that first day. Nothing is confirmed. All sources are somehow anonymous. Nobody will go one the record. Things are getting denied, probably rightly.

Tonight Rachel reported one thing that I had not heard put this way. It appears that they could receive something from the plane. But she did confirm only that they have reason to believe that the plane did not crash when the transponder went out. No other details.

Not much there.

Had CNN on this afternoon and every time I looked (TV was on mute) there was the banner saying 'breaking news' and when I turned on the sound it was the same story -- hour after hour. Fortunately I got a lot of other things done! Anyway, I have begun to root for space aliens.

Cheers for the post above re real stories other places in the world. We are missing a plane. People are grieving. We have nothing else to say until we do.

they mean DU is utterly insane?

I've heard many newspeople, including Barbara Walters, say they do the exploitive stories to get people to watch, and then they try to sneak some real news in.

The problem, as usual, is not with the media, but with us.

Lots of people want to take the easy explaination - aliens - but I'm looking at you, Rupert Murdoch!
