His life must be pure freaking hell right now. I wonder what is on his mind. It gives me a little bit of comfort right now. He has gotten his day in the sun.

That's standard operating procedure in ANY police department in the freakin' world!

(18,585 posts)I'm not sure what evidence could be gathered from the gun- Zimmerman admitted to shooting Martin, distance could be determined by the wound to Martin's chest. If there were multiple guns, or multiple shots and some doubt about who shot whom, I could see keeping the gun in evidence for ballistic matching.

(22,144 posts)The police report states it was taken from him and checked into evidence.
Your claim has been repeated often but I cannot find a source for it.

(285 posts)Maybe I will send him some Depends. I don't want vigilante justice for him, just for him to have some real bad days contemplating what people want to do to him.

(135,425 posts)I think it's hyperbolic--intended to inspire fear in the guy, like he inspired it in Trayvon before he shot him. They want to "find and detain" the guy, and they say if the police won't act, they will. It's not really a sensible tack to take, but it is what it is.
Article on the topic (with much more at link) :
When asked whether he was inciting violence, Muhammad replied defiantly saying: "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth."
The bounty announcement came moments after members of the group called for the mobilization of 10,000 black men to capture George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who shot Trayvon Martin last month.
Muhammad said members of his group would search for Zimmerman themselves in Maitland and Jacksonville -- where the 28-year old worked before the shooting, employees there told the Orlando Sentinel. But he declined to say when they will begin their hunt.

(1,484 posts)before somebody drops the dime on him. I imagine he must feel somewhat similar to the way that bin Ladden felt for his last 10 miserable years on this planet; only without the clandestine support line and the unlimited amount of money to sustain his lavish lifestyle, not.
The Sanford PD must at least know where he is hiding, and if that is so, then The Panthers will eventually mine a leak. But to say that also means that he is dead meat on either the outside or the inside. Unless of course if he were to be kept in solitary.
His father must have been awfully naive to think that he could make the whole thing go away simply by rallying to his side in public the way that he foolishly did; because now his sorry ass is in the same boat. Sometimes when your wrong, there is just no way of getting out of it. I doubt if even the NRA could save their sorry asses now.

(26,219 posts)Even the President made a rare comment about the case.
He isn't the only one that needs to be shitting in his pants right now. The entire Sanford PD (and, once again, the State of Florida) are rightfully under a HUGE microscope.

(26,219 posts)Hadn't heard that, and it is music to my ears.
Things like this (and Citizens United) just boggle the mind. Do these legislators (and judicials) even think through the potential consequences of their decisions?
