Accused fugitive won't be sent to Michigan (escaped prison in 1977)

SAN DIEGO — A fugitive complaint was dismissed Friday for a woman authorities said had escaped from a Michigan prison nearly four decades ago.

Judy Lynn Hayman, 60, who is also known as Jamie Lewis, was arrested Feb. 4 after investigators with the Michigan Department of Corrections found information indicating she was living in San Diego.

They said she walked away from the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, Mich. on April 14, 1977, where she was serving a 16-month sentence for attempted larceny from a building.

Hayman legally changed her name to Jamie Lewis in 1983.

Good! CA state prisons are notoriously overcrowded...and this woman has lived a clean, law-abiding life since '77.

And the number-one song in the US at the time Hayman escaped was "Dancing Queen" by ABBA.

This woman was serving a 16-month sentence for attempted larceny. If she had been imprisoned for a violent crime, that would be a different story.
