1000 Years of European Border Changes

Fascinating.
Also, an excellent way to understand the present day stuff that's going on, by pausing it along the way and looking at the borders.
It's not quite totally calibrated well, as it seems to do the Napoleonic Empire before Napoleon by a few years, and seems to be behind a bit by a few years for WWII. But still, an interesting look at how completely the borders have changed over there over the years, and a good way to give yourself pause about trying to understand all the underlying ethnic complexities of that peninsula.

about some sort of geographical injustice, maybe that I thought there should be a Palestinian state or that some country shouldn't be occupying some particular territory. The details don't matter but the friend pointed out that no matter how much I thought I was right, to keep in mind that map boundaries are only ever a snapshot of a specific geo-political moment in time.
