PORTLAND, Ore. (CBS Seattle) The 22-pound housecat that trapped its owners in their bedroom after attacking their baby has now been placed in an animal shelter.
The Multnomah County Animal Services said Tuesday that Lux the cat is in their care after his owners called us to report an incident and requested he be removed from their home.
Lux, the 4-year-old part-Himalayan cat, made national headlines after Lee Palmer called 911 when the cat attacked himself, his girlfriend and their 7-month-old child.

(5,937 posts)You can find other clips of cats making similar noises. We had a cat once that came close to making such a noise but it would be brief. After watching several clips I believe it's something they do when feeling anxiety, on the spectrum of fightt or flight it must be somewhere inbetween.

(21,115 posts)I think he should be living with a nice family with a farm type residence so this kitty can divert his energy into more cat like activities....

(10,164 posts)You can't blame a cat for striking out when it gets its tail pulled. You also can't blame a 7-month-old infant for pulling the cat's tail. They simply don't know any better at that age.
You can, however, blame the idiot parents for not more closely supervising the cat/baby interaction...

(10,164 posts)MCAS is a very high-kill shelter (practically the only one in Portland...but also the government agency to which Animal Control takes animals and probably the only one that will accept a "provisional surrender" of a pet). With all the publicity attached to this case, I'm hoping they'll want to avoid a shitstorm of bad publicity and not put Lux down if the asshat owners elect not to take him back.
I also hope they don't decide to take him back (which they'll probably try to do, since they seem to think there's a reality TV show in the offing *ugh*). These cretins aren't fit to have pets (or children, for that matter...but naught to do about that now).

(44,973 posts)Shelter said it was 13 pounds, not 22.
Also, it doesn't look Himalayan. It's black and white bicolor with long hair.
I personally hope somebody else adopts it.
This guy admits he kicked the cat.

(6,597 posts)snip: Cats don't become ferocious felines that turn on their families for no reason, says the cat behavior expert, who is heading to Portland soon to work with the 4-year-old part-Himalayan pet named Lux. Galaxy will film the visit for his show's fifth season, which kicks off April 26.
snip:
Palmer said the cat had a history of violence, but the family kept Lux until Monday, when they turned him over to a Portland-area shelter. But the family assured Animal Planet they were going to keep the cat and agreed to therapy with Galaxy.

(44,973 posts)First of all, if they want to keep the cat, why take it to a kill shelter?
Second of all, the guy admits he kicked the cat.
Where is animal abuse investigation?

(6,597 posts)I really hope Lux gets adopted into a loving home far away from those people. I don't think the current owners are anywhere near responsible pet owners or for that matter responsible parents.

(14,881 posts)because the long story is the child pulled the cats tail and when the cat hissed and struck at the toddler -- which most any cat will do if somebody pulls it's tail -- the SUPPOSED ADULT KICKED THE CAT.
Given the cats response, it probably was not a first abuse, either.
