Danforth Dan Loring distinguished himself flying dozens of bombing missions during World War II and then served in the Korean War before enjoying a long and successful career in Omaha in the insurance industry.
The retired major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve died Tuesday at the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth at age 95, said his son, Dan Loring of Omaha. Mary Loring, Danforth Loring's wife of 70 years, was at his side.
Dan Loring said his father always wore an American flag pin on his lapel. The family plans to have a basket of the pins on hand for visitors at his 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 113 N. 18th St.
He's a super patriot, Loring said.
