CAITLIN MACNEAL MARCH 26, 2014, 12:20 PM EDT
Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh on Tuesday sympathized with polling whiz Nate Silver, characterizing him as former hero of Democrats.
"This is what they tend to do. They invest in a singular, messianic personality -- and when that person doesn't follow what they hope or want, then they are challenged," Limbaugh said on his show. "I mean, it's a sanity challenge. So they're very upset and turning on him, and it probably is going to get worse for the poor guy before it gets better."
Some Democrats criticized Silver this week when he predicted that Republicans could take back the Senate in the 2014 election. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee executive director Guy Cecil defended four of the incumbent senators Silver picked as likely to lose to a GOP candidate.
Limbaugh charged that Democrats only like Silver when he predicts elections in their favor.

(55,445 posts)by definition polls are fluid, malleable, "snapshots" of popular trends...
Disagreeing with Silver is like disagreeing with the weatherman's prediction of weather 60 days in the future...
Having said that, the media coverage of Silver's prediction AND the public reaction to that prediction has been way, way over-the-top...

(4,788 posts)only likes him when he predicts they are going to win. Rushy, I hate to break it to you, but it's called human nature. Last election you vilified Silver, now you are lionizing him. How is that any different from how the Democratic party is reacting to his recent claim that they are going to loose big at the polls in 2014? Inquiring minds want to know.

(13,992 posts)Our biggest enemy in 2014 is the lack of turn-out. If Nate's prediction scares the living shit out of Democrats and gets them to the polls, we'll do better.

(26,060 posts)gets Democrats off their asses and to the polls, I'll consider him a freeking hero. For all we know, that's why he announced these results.

(20,317 posts)It's easy to assume that people who tell you things you want to hear-- particularly when they're the only one's saying it-- are somehow 'on your side'.
How many conservatives have posted Colbert pieces on their homepages, thinking he was on their side because he said something they wanted to hear (albeit, satirically)?
