Lewisville teacher donates kidney to student's father

My PREFACE:
.No kidney donation is an ordinary undertaking, but when a White Texas female teacher gives one of her kidneys to a Black student's father, that is news worthy. America is changing. Even as the Trayvon Martin case tested the public's evolving perception of race this unselfish act certainly sets a high mark in the annals of human
benevolence.

While I'm at it, I might as well heap praise upon Marie Bell for her altruistic gesture and helping to dispel the notion that Blacks and Whites are somehow so physically different. Marie and Marshall Smith were perfect matches for the transplant... May they both enjoy long and fruitful lives.

DALLAS — "I'm excited," said Marshall Smith, on the eve of the operation, with a tear falling down his cheek. He stopped to collect himself.

"I'm excited because I'm going to get a second chance to live and be able to be a father for my son."

Smith's kidneys stopped working two years ago. His arm holds deep scars from intense dialysis: four hours a day, three days a week since 2009.

This 50-year-old father of eight children, including five-year-old Sean, didn't have much hope until Sean got Marie Bell for a kindergarten teacher.

"I didn't think that God made people like her any more," Marshall said.

On Tuesday afternoon at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Bell gave Sean's daddy a kidney.

And for just this one time I can see real Christianity. So refreshing to an agnostic.

I dont know if this woman was a Christian but I am going to find out what caused this angel to defy southern racial protocols and give such a precious gift of life to another human being, regardless of color.

There doesn't seem to be much interest in this story but, to me, it is a stellar event that may have changed my worldview forever.
