Janice Hahn Walks Out Of Event After James Dobson Calls Obama The 'Abortion President'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/01/janice-hahn-james-dobson-national-day-of-prayer_n_5248819.html

Rep. Janice Hahn (D-Calif.) walked out of the National Day of Prayer event at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, saying she was "outraged" after James Dobson, founder of the conservative Christian advocacy group Focus on the Family, called President Barack Obama the “abortion president.”

“President Obama, before he was elected, made it very clear that he wanted to be the abortion president. He didn’t make any bones about it," Dobson, whose organization recently won a temporary injunction against the Affordable Care Act’s employer contraception mandate, said on Thursday. "This is something that he really was going to promote and support, and he has done that, and in a sense he is the abortion president."

In an interview with The Huffington Post on Thursday, Hahn called the speech deeply "inappropriate" and a violation of the event's symbol as a nonpartisan day of unity.

“He goes on about health care and … providing abortions, and at that point I stood up and I pointed my finger at Dr. Dobson and I said, ‘This is inappropriate!’ and walked out,” Hahn told HuffPost.

She was clearly happy to attend an event with an anti gay propagandist organized by his supporters on the religious right, including Dobson's wife who organizes the Prayer Breakfast things. She had no problem with Dobson until he gored her particular ox.

I have three daughters and they have a difficult enough time without having to worry about access to birth control, which is precisely what would be taken away if we had a 'sanctity of life' law. And, why is an old white man trying to control my daughters' reproductive rights anyway? No woman can truly be free until she has control over where, when and under what circumstances she becomes a mother. This includes access to abortion services as well. That's a very hard choice, but Dobson and his ilk do not have the right to take that choice away from women.

WTF, indeed!

A public, repeated, flagrant violation of the constitution (in spirit at the very least).

No one stops it.

No one is penalized.

I don't believe that the British parliament operates under the construct of separation of church and state. The monarch is also charged with being the defender of the faith so they're way more linked than the supposedly secular US governmental system is supposed to be.

Sadly, despite the professions of non-partisanship and calls for unity, the National Day of Prayer has become a forum for Religious Right polemicizing, not for spiritual or religious unity.

The next generation's empty pews and shuttered churches can be blamed on James Dobson and his ilk.

Abortion but then they are against healthcare, go figure. They want forced births but then let them die. James Dobson should be ashamed, to take precious moments away from Day of Prayer to gain political points rather than praying for unity for this nation. Thank you Janice Hahn for standing up for Americans.

The Chairperson of the National Day of Prayer Task Force (the group charged with planning and putting on the events) has been Shirley Dobson for a long time. The Vice-Chairperson and Executive Director is a man who worked for Focus on the Family prior to his current position.

From 1991-2009 the Task Forces offices were in the Focus on the Family's headquarters buildings. (Although they are legally "separate" entities.) They choose the themes, select the bible verses for that theme, and set the program.

Not too much question why they are like they are.
