Governor, do you want bridge jokes or size jokes? 'Cause Ive got a bunch of both. I could go half and half. I know you like a combo platter.
Now, I get that. Im sorry for that joke, Governor Christie. I didnt know I was going to tell it but I take full responsibility for it. Whoever wrote it, will be fired. But the buck stops here. So, I will be a man and own up to it, just as soon as I get to the bottom of how it happened because I was unaware it happened until just now.
I am appointing a blue-ribbon commission of me to investigate the joke I just told and if I find any wrongdoing on my part, I assure you I will be dealt with.
I just looked into it. It turns out Im not responsible for it. Justice has been served.

(70,755 posts)I've watched The Soup in its incarnations since it started, so I'm used to McHALE's snarkiness. It was clear that this D.C. stodgy audience didn't know him and weren't taking it well. Only the Prez & FLotUS seemed to be getting it.
He's not really a political type, more of a mean-little-kid zinging without boundaries. On his show the product looks smoother and in this speech setting it looked rough. This riff was longer, more cohesive, just a gem of the whole CHRISTIE thing in a piece.
COLBERT was absolutely brilliant in a truth-telling (not "truthiness" way, his barbs on Shrub being devastating, then the knockout line about sycophantic press corps with their unfinished novels in their desk drawers. (Will look it up for posting again.)
Joel was a rough version of COLBERT. I"ve never seen his "Community" show.

COLBERTs Correspondents Dinner Speech
.... Wow. Wow, what an honor. The White House correspondents' dinner. To actually sit here, at the same table with my hero, George W. Bush, to be this close to the man. I feel like I'm dreaming. Somebody pinch me. You know what? I'm a pretty sound sleeper -- that may not be enough. Somebody shoot me in the face. Is he (CHEENEE) really not here tonight? Dammit. The one guy who could have helped. ....
I stand by this man. I stand by this man because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things. Things like aircraft carriers and rubble and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message: that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound -- with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world. ....
As excited as I am to be here with the president, I am appalled to be surrounded by the liberal media that is destroying America, with the exception of Fox News. Fox News gives you both sides of every story: the president's side, and the vice president's side. ....
But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction! ....

(269,200 posts)I'll never forget that night. It was particularly delish because apparently ReTHUGs never realized his character was satire and they were caught naked and exposed.

(28,276 posts)Stein totally lost his mind over McHale's routine on CNN; the old reactionary was so enraged, he was practically foaming at the mouth. When Stein barked out the word "Goddamned" on the air, the CNN people shifted things back to their other commentators in a hurry. For eliciting that level of furious hysteria from Ben Stein, Joel McHale deserves our gratitude.
