in favor of Sharia Law!!1!
During a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on the Comcast-Time Warner merger, Gohmert floated the theory that Comcast while Comcast launched Al Jazeera America, the company refused to let The Blaze purchase a network it owned.
"Al Gore was pushing the sale of Current TV, and Glenn Beck, the Blaze were trying to buy it. And it was reported that Al Jazeera wanted to get their Sharia law push into the United States, and they were willing to pay big bucks, regardless of whether they had oil and carbon all over the money," Gohmert began.
"They were willing to pay big dollars but they wouldn't do the deal unless Comcast was willing to keep them in its list of networks provided. So it was reported Comcast agreed, so Al Gore got all that oil and carbon based money. And then, that kept Glenn Beck off the air. Of Comcast," he continued.
How the fuck does he keep getting elected?

(47,803 posts)God Knows I'm no fan of Glen Beck. I'm more than happy to see him exiled to Media Siberia.
But as atrocious as he is, he should have a right to access to the Media, along with sane people. Free speech and access to information applies to everyone.
Media Monopolization is a issue that crosses political dividing lines. Maybe this will wake Gomer and other right wingnuts to the danger of allowing too few owners control too much radio, TV and the Internet.

(32,026 posts)I've read threads from Freeperville that dismiss alternative media like Al Jazeera and Free Speech TV as anti-American crazy stuff.
But don't these right wingers realize that corporate media has been trolling them for years into thinking that less regulation of the media = more freedom in the marketplace = thus more free speech?
The irony is: in today's media environment, free speech is held hostage to the whims of executive brass at Comcast, Disney, CBS, Viacom, Time Warner, News Corporation, you name it! I may be going off the rails here, but if more activists on the right realize that they can benefit from a properly regulated media with the Fairness Doctrine and corporate ownership limits as much as the left can, America would have a more united front against media consolidation!
Sean Hannity (whose radio show once had Gohmert as a guest host) has acknowledged that media monopolies are evil...facetiously of course, given that he's benefited from such an unregulated media landscape!

(30,058 posts)Red states already doing them. GOP cries capitalist all the time, Al Gore had the right to make whatever deal he wanted. If Glenn Beck did not have the money required then he is not ready for the big time. BTW, not all Texans is like Louie, he just escaped reality.

(14,400 posts)that goober was actually the Chief Justice of the Texas 12th Court of Appeals really doesn't reflect well on the citizens of the State of Texas.
The fact that he continues to get elected clearly shows that the people of his district are the dumbest in the country.

(32,026 posts)The far eastern part of Texas, on the border with Northwestern Louisiana. The place seems to be a mostly rural/small town district at least an hour away from Dallas. Not surprising such a backwards minded dummy represents this district.
One bright spot though: the district includes Stephen F. Austin State University, whose men's basketball team made the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament by upsetting Virginia Commonwealth. I suspect the presence of a state university makes a small town like Nacogdoches less right wing than the rest of Gohmert's district.
