It's been giving me trouble since Friday. No problems with other pages except Facebook yesterday.

(45,120 posts)because I am using posts that I google to get in. I saw someone post that so I tried it and it works. When I try to go to different groups or forums it freezes up and takes forever to load.

(6,261 posts)But I was in a hotel with a somewhat dodgy connection. All the other web pages seemed to load OK, but DU behaved as though it had been DOS'ed or something. Went for a nice walk instead.

Thanks, FCC... The DUzy Awards are postponed

1. At this point we are not aware of any problem on our end.
But we'll look and see if we can find anything.

(13,685 posts)No one reads DU so why would they try and throttle DU?
And no, the nsa is not tapping your DU connection. An nsa person told me that, so it must be true.
But if they were tapping you, the problems you are having could be the signal that they are, right?
Slowest action today was trash thread...what CS can you make with that?
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)Probably the best thing to trash are the liberal left wing threads. That way you are known as a non-threat. Reccing the bundy threads? Now that is tough to call. Would have to see your metadata to clear that up.
Like the chief enforcers told us: You are either with us or against us. Wait, no that was just a CS meme, eh?

(53,339 posts)I went to "My Account" and changed the preference setting for social media tabs on threads from 'Display' to 'Remove.'
That solved loading problems for me and some others, but not for everyone who tried it.
Good luck!

(45,120 posts)it quit letting me in using post I Goggled. Found Internet Explorer and am able to log in on that but it's a little iffy switching between forums. But can't do anything to get into DU on Fire Fox.
Now this seems to be giving me trouble. I click on a link in the host forum or in MIRT and it just sits and spins and will not open. I have clicked on ask the admins but that just spins also.

(31,893 posts)I'm on dial-up and haven't noticed any problems at all. Being on dial-up means that loading times are always pretty slow, but things haven't been any slower than usual and I haven't had any trouble going around DU.
This may be the one time I can be glad that I'm still stuck with dial-up.

Primarily on iOS 7.1 Safari, but secondarily on OSX Safari and OSX Firefox. Provider is CenturyLink.
2naSalit
(86,804 posts)using WIN 7; Fire Fox and CenturyLink. I've found that several "tricks" help but problem not solved... been this way since early Friday. Logged in or not it's the same. I use Ghostery and have cookies either turned off or deleted when I close my browser along with history... I use disk clean-up often and that didn't change anything either. About half the links open quickly and the rest take several tries before they load... albeit most with the load wheel still spinning as this tab is doing right now.
Googling and then opening in new tab helps a lot in most cases. .. including the log in and posting comments. Any link I try to open I use the new tab option, otherwise it's the ugly-demon-nightmare-wait-in-limbo-from-hell. AKA, the eternal spin cycle.
All other web sites load really fast.

(9,808 posts)I primarily go through iOS Safari with my secondary machine running OSX Safari.
I noticed that several others who posted that they were having problems mentioned or otherwise indicated that they had associations with either Colorado or CenturyLink. I'm currently thinking it might be somewhere in the provider network -- downstream of DU CentCom but upstream of users? Since ping responses seem to be okay and other traffic seems fine...?
It reminds me of the old days when AOL was the hot new thing and MAE-EAST would go down... Half of the intertubez would be hard to reach.

I was ready to call my ISP and ask if they were throttling DU.
Cha
(297,723 posts)two hours to get back on.
I called Dell Tech Saturday morning to see if they could help but they wanted too much money and thankfully I didn't bite as much as I wanted to get on DU. I had no idea what was going on.. now according to this thread there are a lot of peeps having probs with getting on. And, then there are others who aren't having any problems at all. Makes me wonder why it doesn't affect those computers!?
Soon.. EarlG will see all of this.. and or Elad and we'll be back at business as usual. lol

Thanks for that info, I wasn't sure where to look or what the problem was... I hope that was it!
ETA: Nope, that wasn't it. But I still will keep that setting change and am still glad you 'splained it. Maybe I'll try the restore point thingy next. Doesn't make sense, but I was having trouble with The Wildlife News site earlier today (hosted by WordPress), it was down for a spell, complete with a "Server Not Found" notice. That isn't the case for DU.

(297,723 posts)The rest of my sites work great.. it's only DU since Friday. For awhile I thought I was the only one because those I talked to when I did get on had no problems.. then yesterday I saw two posts in ATA from czziggy and 2naSalit that gave me hope it wasn't just me.
I dodged a bullet yesterday morning because I had called Dell tech to see if they could help and it would have been $200.00 for a year service contract or $130.00 for a one shot deal. As much as I wanted to get on DU I said.. no thank I cannot afford that.
It takes me forever to get on with many tries and then when I do.. it lets me post for a little while and then it freezes up on me.. big time.
I'm wondering if it matters where we are.. why it affects some and not others?
So glad to see your thread.. I'm going to write a post myself in ATA tomorrow if DU lets me in.
napkinz
(17,199 posts)Me too, Cha!
For the past two days I have had the same difficulties as others. I thought it was a problem at my end until I read this thread a few minutes ago.
So there is nothing we have to do to fix the problem? Just wait for the tech people at DU to take care of it?
(I'm not very computer literate, so when things go awry, I automatically think there is something I need to do, something beyond my ken. It can be very frustrating.)
Cha
(297,723 posts)got on I kept looking for OPs that wondered what the heck was up with DU.. but, nothing and as I said the people I talked to weren't having problems, either.. so not being that tech savvy myself I thought it was my new laptop!
I really feel I dodged a bullet by saying "No" to Dell.. 'cause I was thinking about it.
As far as doing anything ourselves about it.. there may be some suggestions for you in this thread.. like I told csziggy.. It's going to be so sweet when it's Over!

(17,199 posts)I couldn't get back to this forum. I had to to restart my computer!
Now I'm going to click on "post my reply" to you ... and I have no idea if it's going to take my back to this thread, and if it doesn't, I'll have to restart the computer again.
This is driving me crazy.
OK ... here goes ... clicking on "post my reply" (meaning THIS reply I am now typing).

(17,199 posts)A few times I got just the top of the page, but no threads.
I finally got back on just now.
One member suggested "Clear your cache and cookies" to another member. I asked that person if he/she could give me the steps how to do that (I'm so darn computer illiterate).
In another reply to this thread, a member said Skinner wrote that there's no problem at DU's end, so I guess that means the problem is with my connection ... ???
Yet other members have said they too have had difficulty the past couple of days getting DU to load.
I'm soooo confused.
Cha
(297,723 posts)it being easier with no other tabs open was wrong!
It's too bad if Skinner said there's no problem at DU's end because my computer is fine but I can't download DU except occasionally when the mood strikes cyberspace. Lots of members said they've had problems not just us.
napkinz
(17,199 posts)I've restarted my computer about twenty times today. I think I've been able to load DU only four times. And a couple of those times, I typed something, hit reply, and "lost the page."
This has been going on three days now.
Well, here goes. I'm now going to hit "post my reply." And if this doesn't work, it's back to restarting my computer again and again and again. (I don't have this problem with any other websites.)
