http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Fire-Burns-at-Camp-Pendleton--259247941.htmlA brush fire has prompted evacuations on Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, according to Marine Corps officials.
The Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook and Deluz military housing have been evacuated to the Paige Fieldhouse. Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary School on base is also evacuating.
The fire started around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday near the Naval Weapons Station gate on the eastside of base near Fallbrook.
Aerial pictures showed black smoke and orange flames burning near what appeared to be storage units.
There is no word yet on what started the fire or how far it has spread. No injuries have been reported.
Sgt. Matt Klopp told NBC 7 he hopes the fire doesn't shift toward base.

(12,693 posts)Marines would do hand-to-hand combat with the flames before they would let it get near their tools.

(6,324 posts)Ammo is stored in what are known as Ammo Supply Points, in very secure bunkers built into the ground.
Fire could burn right over top of them and not be a hazard.
They have the design of those storage areas very well engineered.
