I'm sure you've heard of Sheriff Arpaio, but do you know who Bull Connor was? (Makes Arpaio look like a bloody hero.)
Do you know why Philadelphia is sometimes known as "The City that Bombed Itself"?
Reagan did help the expansion of militarized police, but 9-11 pushed it even more with money yanked from food programs shoved into buying tanks and cannons for cops.
It's not good now, but it has been worse. And if we work on i, it will cycle back to better.

If nothing is ever fixed then, overall, there's no progress for the human race at all.
You could be right about that, but it would make life pointless.
