(29,674 posts)I took a break from here not long after that. I still sometimes go back to the old DU and read some of his threads. We had some crazy late night conversations and I always swore we'd meet up someday for a visit. He liked when I'd share a few pics of my daughter with him privately, since he knew I was usually quite careful with her pictures.
I always liked Redstone. I never really knew MFM.

(29,674 posts)such that I'd pm him. He loved the one with her as Dorothy, especially with her kissing her dog. I adored him and he knew it. At one time he was going to join me, Rev_Acts and a few others in forming a commune in the Ozarks, lol. We'd joked about that on a regular basis. Oh, and only the hottest men would be allowed to join us. He was going to be the judge of who the hottest were, of course.
I miss him. There are things going on in my life right now that I'd love to talk to him about. He'd give me good advice, make me laugh and feel good about my choices. I miss him.

(1,262 posts)Random Thoughts' faux-schitzo writing style actually seemed intentional in some ways if you analyzed it over time. His frequently, seemingly random, divergences from the thread topic often changed to topics referring to organizational malfeasance and political struggle in large ideological or religious organizations. I think his posts were full of dog whistles for others using DU as an untraceable communication medium - hiding in plain site so to speak. A lot of secretive groups do this on the internet.
DU is a perfect site for this kind of cloak and dagger shit. One can get their post count up high with hundreds of short disingenuous contributions to obscure forums on DU and then burst on the scene with your agenda and a high enough post count not to be challenged.
A lot of RT's posts didn't make much sense unless you slipped them into a context where they actually could make some sense.
Also, in several of his posts, he responded to challenges by suggesting that perhaps his posts are for certain readers out there who are able to understand him. So there's that.
I miss Random Thoughts. He was funny and optimistic and I always enjoyed his seeming nonsense like a brain teaser - to make order out of chaos and meaning out of word salad.
I hope he's ok. Whatever was going on there, I'm pretty sure he was one of the good guys.
May he receive his beer and travel money that, as has been proven, is due him.

I think she must have had a heart of gold...when I look back at some of my mail from her, our personal conversations that I'd saved from the old days, they bring me to tears, she was such a sweetie (and a true fighter). Mazel tov, my friend!
The world lost a most compassionate person when she died. Here is a link to her old Journal, if you wish to see what Sapphire Blue was about:

Please come back, Beth!
Now, the DUer who I miss the most and who I consider the one who carried this place on his shoulders, always ... that would be Khephra. (41,205 posts)I think the two whom I personally miss most, though neither left for any tragic reason so far as I know, and I think both are still listed as members, are Taxloss and Demoleft.
Taxloss was a great UK poster, whom I 'met' in my early days of posting on that forum when it was set up in 2004, and he continued there for some years after that. A really good ally against Blairism, Toryism, Republicanism and all manner of idiocy.
Demoleft was (is) an Italian, who brought a great continental Europaean perspective to the forum.
Both great people to have around, and helped make DU do the opposite of suck!

I also miss Andy Stephenson, Khephra, and of course, MFM and his wonderful silliness that so often put a smile on my face.
Is Ptah still around? Or AdsosLetter? He used to post fabulous stuff about archaeology.

(13,485 posts)there are a few posters on DU right now that I have great respect for, who write very well thought out and passionate articles. I miss being able to connect with them because it's evident I'm not considered of the same standard. Maybe rightfully so. So I just read their comments and soak in a bit of their experience. If they went away, they would certainly be on my list of missed posters.
I won't out a list.

(7,365 posts)SoCalDem posted one of the most hilarious things I've ever read when he/she posted about the 2004 Republican convention...
highlights include
-FUDick
-Cheeses of Nazareth
-Fetus drill team
-Tommy Ridge breathing fire
It was the greatest thing ever posted.

(Except that the words "nerve gas" were posted - repeatedly - in a scary, green, wavy font, and they were really big, and, y'know . . . scary!!!)

(45,251 posts)I recognize only one name, maybe two, and from other boards. Don't know if they were the same people, though.
As to those who have gone ahead, I am sorry for the loss of all who miss them and I am sorry that I did not get to know them.
As to those who have wandered away because of disagreements, your friends miss you. Come on back and say hi. You can always ignore the ones with whom you disagree.
As to those who got banned, meet your DU friends at The Dissenter (and try to behave this time, LOL).
