This guy should be shoveling shit for a living and here he is actually being taken seriously as a contender for the presidency of this country. I'm not sure if it's possible, but he may be worse than W.
He's racist, homophobic, sexist, anti-intellectual, regressive, apocalyptic, and just plain stupid. Yet there seem to be a lot of people who think he should lead this country. Well, maybe I answered my own question.
I hope I live to see the day when people like Santorum aren't taken seriously.

(15,682 posts)His candidacy disgusts me even more than the Newts. Can you imagine a President Santorum, Google page and all? It's just not fathomable to me.

(115,719 posts)during these GOP primaries - not just Santorum, but:
Rick Perry, who has been described as George Bush without the burden of intellect.
Michele Bachman, a raving religious fanatic with a grasp of the workings of government that rivals that of Sarah Palin (a vapid, self-obsessed fool who was taken seriously enough to be a VP candidate).
Herman Cain, a serial sexual harasser who had no experience in government at all - not even on a city council.
Newt Gingrich, a egomaniacal repeat-offending adulterer and former House Speaker who stepped down after being fined for ethical violations.
And Romney, the front-runner, while arguably a bit more qualified than the other clowns, is nothing more than a pathetically hollow droid.
It's just mind-boggling.

Like PJ O'Rourke said, "They are convinced government doesn't work so they get elected to prove it."

(10,418 posts)Not only is Santorum averse to progress, he wants to take us backwards.
BTW, probably more than half the country is more conservative than me, but I can deal with the middle of the road.

(149,627 posts)The man is absolutely scary. Plus, he is everything you said he is.
I guess I'd blame it on the Republican-led school boards, who have been busy dumbing down our children's education for decades. They laid the path.

How you get to be in his place, I think, is you decide to become a politician, you have a gift for meeting people and getting people to like you, and for saying things in public that a lot of people seem to like. You wear a suit well, you dress up well, you can shake a lot of hands, you have a lot of energy to go at it all day and travel. Ba-da-bing. You're a politician with votes. All you need is some people to fund you, and you're in. Even a lousy politician will get some votes.

A good place to start is the recent book "Republican Gamorrah" by Max Blumenthal.

Santorum will wind up shoveling shit for a living before it is all over and done with because he will end up in their circus following that bigass GOP elephant around after he drops out of the fantasy he is currently deluding himself with.
Only Bill O'Reilly takes Santorum seriously.
But, then hell, O'Reilly read an e-mail that was sent to his program from "Heywood Jablowme" over the air once, too.

the office of the presidency represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron. - H.L. Mencken, 1920
