After delivering a 13-minute speech at the liberal gathering that blasted the malfeasance of Americas big banks and outlined a list of progressive values she champions, Warren opened up the floor to questions.
But the first man who stood up instead made a request.
Your ideas and the ideas of Bernie Sanders continue to be brought to the American people and you should join together to run for the Democratic nomination, said Ray Donaldson, a retired IBM employee, who was primely positioned in the front row to make his plea.
After waiting for the yelps and applause to wind down, Warren told Donaldson she appreciated the thought, but issued the familiar response shell be forced to utter countless more times until 2016: Im not running for president.

Elizabeth Warren admits to signing letter urging Hillary to run:
Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she hopes Hillary Rodham Clinton runs for president in 2016 the latest in a series of declarations of support by the Massachusetts Democrat, who some have speculated could seek the Oval Office herself.
"All all of the women Democratic women I should say of the Senate urged Hillary Clinton to run, and I hope she does. Hillary is terrific," Warren said during an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week," noting that she was one of several senators to sign a letter urging Clinton to run in 2016.

Understand that I fully support my Senator Warren. Just like Teddy did, she will do amazing things in the Senate. She is in her element, and she knows that. She is on fire!
Thanks C_D!

(31,893 posts)If they want to promote Warren for President, what harm does that do? Why shouldn't they, if that's what they want to do?
NO Democrat has declared their candidacy for the 2016 presidential race at this time. Why mock anyone for naming their preference at this stage of the game?

To be honest, your reply doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe you could explain what you mean.

Imagine for example if the time spent replying to this OP had been spend writing an actual letter to Elizabeth Warren.....

(135,425 posts)When she tells her constituents that she will finish her term, as she has done several times, when she says she's not running, as she's done dozens of times, and her constituents believe her, it's a little trollish when people continue to shop the theme that she's playing some super-secret bullshit game and is going to tell those of us who worked so hard to put her in office "Ah ha! Fuck you! Find another Senator--you've only had how many in the last three or four years, now?"
It's like musical chairs up in the Bay State, you know, and we like stability when our political delegation is performing well.
Why would anyone want to try to make a liar out of EW with those kinds of statements?

(31,893 posts)that she will run. There's a difference.
And I see nothing wrong with wishing/hoping that she will run.
Since there are exactly ZERO declared Dem candidates for the 2016 presidential election, what the hell difference does it make at this point in time for people to express their desire for ANY particular person to run?

(9,289 posts)Yesterday I was told that I should leave poor Warren alone because she obviously doesn't want to run and is tired of being urged to run.
VanillaRhapsody
(21,115 posts)You can tell quite plainly that she is tired of being asked that question.....it distracts from the real work she is trying to do...
MannyGoldstein
(34,589 posts)They really, really need for us to know that she's not going to run. So don't even think about it, OK?
VanillaRhapsody
(21,115 posts)she has repeatedly and vehemently said so...and it is painfully obvious she is annoyed at being asked over and over...
bravenak
(34,648 posts)She'll have to announce it every few days for the next year.
Then they'll probably just start a write in campaign.
I find it strange that she has to keep saying it over and over.

Why don't you all start a superpac and raise money to encourage her to run? If you raise enough maybe she will do it. Just in case Hillary decides not to go for it.

The campaign season is too long as it is, why start it earlier than it has to be.
Anyway, there is always a chance for minds to be changed and I don't think it's out of the question Warren won't change hers.
I like the fact she is being asked this so often, says a lot. I would love that she be in the primaries and the debates - that would be instructive to the American audience to say the least and destructive to the status quo.

(1,315 posts)Tragically and sadly. I believe she is not going to run in '16.
Hillary will, and will win and in '24 when Elizabeth does run it will be to take the reigns on a shattered nation, we are so far gone now to the banks and monied interests, and HRC will do nothing to stop that , in fact I believe she will be beholden to them.
I think this truly may be the last chance the people of America have to save ourselves, and I am a little angry she is not going to be there, in charge and leading this fight, but I guess I have to respect a woman that puts her state over her country and it's people.
ChangeUp106
(549 posts)and I don't think she is running. However, as someone who watches way too many of her interviews, her tone has changed on the question. Last year it was all-out denial. Now it's "I hope Hillary runs" and "I'm not running for President" (present tense) and "I'm focused on the current fight."
Still don't think she'll run but I will not stop encouraging her to run and encouraging others to support her.

(118,379 posts)First she says, Im not running for president. Then she says, Im not running for president. Next she says, Im not running for president. One day, she's saying, Im not running for president, but the following day she'll say, Im not running for president. She even changes her mind repeatedly in a single interview: I saw her tell one guy, Im not running for president, but just a moment later she said, Im not running for president, and a minute after that, it was suddenly, Im not running for president. It makes my head spin: is she running or isn't she? Some consistency here would be nice

(5,169 posts)"I'm not running for President" is not the same as saying "I promise that I will not run for President of the United States of America in 2016".
It just means she is not, right this instant, running for President. It does not exclude her from announcing this afternoon "After the outpouring of support, I wish to announce my candidacy for President of the United States".
Politics is all about nuance! Learning and utilizing the loopholes and literalisms of language in a politically advantageous way.
And the supporting Hillary thing - that is a nice diversion!

(10,857 posts)I feel like a truly progressive candidate might have a chance to shift the Democratic Party in that direction during the primary process, something it desperately needs.
It's a 'careful what you wish for' sort of wish, to be sure, for ultraconservatives got that wish in the form of the Tea Party, and they're this close to taking down the GOP for a decade or even forever. I don't know if such a thing could even happen to the Democratic Party, but I sure as hell don't want to find out the hard way, either!
Furthermore, with outside interests able to turn almost any primary into a race-to-the-bottom, possibly beyond the control of the candidates, a serious primary race might quickly devolve into damaging mudslinging between the backers of the two candidates, which would be... unpleasant for us all.

I think H. Clinton will choose Goldman-Sachs as her running mate. I think the SCOTUS ruled that corporations are people and can run for office.

(13,616 posts)and as Obama and Clinton both demonstrate, it is easy to join an election you swore you would never join, especially if the GOP puts forth weak opponents.
We cannot wish Warren would run, we need to put pressure, in addition, whatever good qualities Clinton may have, she will not go left unless she is placed under pressure. Read Huffpo , and you will see the right has already put pressure, not to mention her hubby (he who called Obama a wuss for not going into war)who would probably have us at war with Syria if he had his way.

Armstead
(47,803 posts)She may or may not ultimately decide to run.
Most candidates, regardless of ideology, say they are not running, until one day they say they are, or re "exploring the options."
That's especially true for those who catch people's interest for some reason.
President Obama did it for a long time too.
Sometimes it is that they really don't plan to run. Other times it's because they don't know, or are waiting to see what the field looks like. Sometimes it's reluctance because that's when the microscope comes out. Also there are legal implications to declaring a candidacy.
Basically at this point, all statements by potential candidates are meaningless, unless they actually declare their candidacy or say, "Yes I'm seriously thinking of it."
brooklynite
(94,785 posts)Despite the attempts by some anti-Hillary people here to twist the meaning of her comments, Warren has acknowledged that she signed a letter urging Hillary Clinton to run, and said she thought Clinton would make a great President. Add to that the fact that, while she doesn't need to formally announce this early, it's necessary to start laying the groundwork for fundraising (hint - she's not; I know her chief fundraiser) and reaching out for political support (hint - she's not paying visits to NH, Iowa, etc.).
Armstead
(47,803 posts)I can see why people for her want to press for her to run, just as they are pressing Bernie to run, just as supporters of peopel they want to run have done from time immemorial.
I'll take her at her word unless things change down the road -- which they often do.
And i'm hoping the repetitive "She isn't running" isn't just a way of saying "Abandon all hope ye who don't want Hillary."
brooklynite
(94,785 posts)...perhaps it's providing a defense for the day when (highly likely) Clinton runs and (highly likely) Warren doesn't. I don't want a lot of yelling that "they" kept Warren from running, when nobody apparently read the tea leaves and tried to get another acceptable candidate to run in her place.
Armstead
(47,803 posts)Personally I'd love to see Sherrod Brown, Tom Harkin, Barbara Lee and any number of other liberal/progressive Democrats run. But it aint gonna happen for a number of reasons.
Right now Warren has the "stuff" that makes her attractive to many peopke (including me). And, to be honest, the thought of another Era of Clinton/DLC/corporate centrism as the only choice is very depressing to contemplate. (Only thing more depressing is GOP dominance.)
So there's a dilemma for people that want a reasonable alternative to the same old shit. And people are understandably grasping at straws.
brooklynite
(94,785 posts)"Ready for Hillary" is a movement by "real" Democrats who want Clinton to run (I know; I'm a member). Unfortunately there isn't a "Ready for Elizabeth" movement. And as far as I can tell, none of the people pining for Warren are doing a thing to convince her to change her mind or to propel someone else into the race.
Armstead
(47,803 posts)Unfortunately there is not a clique of members of Goldman Sachs and Citi to offer her, or some other progressive candidate, a big checkbook and entrenched network of insider power players.
Personally, I mentioned several people who i would personally love to see as president, and I could come up with more. But for various reasons they are would have a difficult time, or clearly aren't thinking in that direction.
It is quite possible that circumstances will present us with More of the Same yet again in the next go round.
But please don't be dismissive of the efforts of those who are sincerely looking for and working to change the Corporate gridlock that is keeping the Democratic Party and the nation stuck in the grip of the Monopolistic Oligarchs and the 1 Percenters.
brooklynite
(94,785 posts)...If there's an organization people can join (whether or not it has big bucks behind it), you should be ready to spread the news to encourage others. I've been perfectly happy to announce my efforts, but I don't seem to notice anyone else doing the same.
