House Republicans Hate Michelle Obama More Than They Love Kids

First Lady Michelle Obama is, in many ways, a more attractive target for conservatives than her Free-World-Leading husband, and this week, House Republicans took aim at the First Lady’s signature initiative. In their proposed fiscal year 2015 agriculture spending bill, the House GOP included a provision that would gut nutritional requirements in school lunches. The White House responded by saying that Mrs. Obama will continue to put the health of our children ahead of politics.

President Obama may, indeed, be the subject of a greater volume of conservative derangement than anyone in history, but Michelle Obama strikes just as nasty a chord with the base, with little or no effort, unless you include trying to get kids to eat healthier. There’s just something about her that riles up a certain portion of the culturally conservative Republican base, but hell if I can figure out what it is.

It’s no surprise, then, that House Republicans would make it their personal mission to gut the school lunch nutritional requirements that Michelle Obama has championed, which include the inclusion of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and a reduction in sodium content. That sodium reduction, by the way, would bring school lunches to almost exactly a third of the current recommended adult daily allowance for sodium by 2017. The provision would allow any school to opt out of the requirements completely if they could show their school lunch program is losing money:

snip

Notwithstanding the dubious logic that if a school is losing money on lunches, it must be because they’re not poisoning our kids, why not propose letting those schools apply for additional funding to defray the losses, if they can prove they were related to the nutritional requirements? In what universe does it make sense to solve the problem by feeding our kids shit? By this reasoning, the states should grant licenses to sell crack if your school’s losing money. Forget Taco Tuesdays, say hello to Meth Mondays!

1. She should have picked suicide prevention.

If Michelle Obama had chosen suicide prevention as her cause the crazies would be jumping off of bridges in protest. How dare she tell us not to kill ourselves!

You can tell from their votes on benefits to all children, from tax deductions to school lunch programs to assistance for abandoned mothers and children. You can tell by the maternity leave this country has: too short and unpaid, unlike the rest of the developed world. You can tell in so many ways that if you're not a rich, white, Protestant male, you don't deserve any of the good things this country still has to offer.

6. It boils down to Other Peoples' Children, as in "you chose to have them, they're your problem"

Rich or poor, I don't think it really matters to GOPers, except obviously the rich can afford to feed, clothe, house, and educate their own kids and the poor cannot, so the rich must be doing something right and the poor must be doing something wrong.

I get the logic, but God help me I cannot get the ethics or morality of such a worldview. But then, I'm a Democrat.

7. What I don't understand, maybe somebody can explain this to me,

is, you know when there was all that controversy about Michelle Obama wearing sleeves that were too long? And I was wondering if she could have been wearing them to hide her husband's long-form birth certificate. Because, you know, there are reports that she tore it up and hid it in her long sleeves and sprinkled it on the so-called healthy salads she forces our children to eat when they go for their death panel interviews at the FEMA camps. And there's speculation that's the real cause of the Benghazi cover-up: the folk in the embassy were so preoccupied trying to figure out how to sneak the torn bits of the long-form birth certificate into their children's salads, with Michelle Obama breathing down their necks, that they didn't even notice they'd been killed in an embassy attack until after they were dead. And these are the people running our country! So it's not really crazy to be concerned about Michelle sneaking fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into the school cafeterias or taking the salt out, because who knows what else she's carrying out of the school when she takes the salt. Some people think it might be our guns that she's taking, you know, with "get the salt out" being a cover for an all-out attack on the second amendment to prepare us for an invasion by the UN. It's just a thought for thinking people who don't just believe whatever the government tells them. Anyway, I thought maybe somebody could explain what's really going on here
