When will this insanity stop? We don't have to live like this.

(26,877 posts)When I see "Turn On CNN right Fugging Now", I'm brought back to the breaking news on 9/11/01. I love ya - you know I do - but when you post such a statement, please provide a little bit of context. It saves me (and anyone who hasn't been pegged on DU all day long) the trouble of the Googling.

(22,271 posts)where one of his relatives found one of his crazy YouTube videos and called the SB police. They interviewed him and determined that he was a nice, polite young man and they didn't think there was anything to worry about. I guess none of them has ever dealt with a sociopath. It's one of their traits. They can be charming as hell to your face, all the while plotting your torture and death.

Again, having an autism spectrum disorder doesn't lead to mass murder, but Antisocial Personality Disorder ("psychopathy" certainly can and does.
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)I honestly don't think the Asperger's was a factor here. The "charming" part has to do with the sociopath part. It's why they can lure victims in so easily. The trouble with this guy was that his severe neediness along with outrageous expectations about women betrayed him so his "charm," at least with women, was trumped by his "creep" factor. His "charm, however, was good enough to fool the police.

(7,234 posts)Background checks only prevents people who have sought treatment for various mental illnesses from owning guns.
The only way to prevent tragedies like this is by a total gun ban like in England and Australia or requiring all gun owners to submit to a $2,500 fee, a psyche eval and interview every 5 years in addition to holding gun owners responsible for any crime committed with a weapon that was not properly secured. Furthermore any gun owner arrested for any crime would automatically have to forfeit all weapons until the case is adjudicated.

(426 posts)but I'm really happy he called out the NRA and gutless politicians who refuse to stand up to them. Can't wait to hear the spin the gun nuts try to throw his way. Hopefully this will wake more people up. It's not about the right to bear arms anymore; it's about the right of gun manufacturers to sell them.
Martinez has every right to call them out; ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We have the right to live free of random shootings.

(39,319 posts)a direct call out of the NRA with that level of emotion is something I don't remember from other parents. That must have connected over in Britain. They can't imagine putting up with the NRA mafia.
