As the Trayvon Martin controversy splinters into a debate about self-defense, a central question remains: Who was heard crying for help on a 911 call in the moments before the teen was shot?
A leading expert in the field of forensic voice identification sought to answer that question by analyzing the recordings for the Orlando Sentinel.
His result: It was not George Zimmerman who called for help.
Tom Owen, forensic consultant for Owen Forensic Services LLC and chair emeritus for the American Board of Recorded Evidence, used voice identification software to rule out Zimmerman. Another expert contacted by the Sentinel, utilizing different techniques, came to the same conclusion.

(5,032 posts)If there were good recordings of Zimmerman and Martin to compare to the 911 tape then this would be easy.
But since Zimmerman is in hiding and Martin is dead it becomes more about eliminating the possibility that it could be a person with the same physical characteristics.

(12,022 posts)This was SO EASILY disproved, it's amazing the Zimmermans thought they could get away with it.

(30,439 posts)The experts quoted in the article only had a recording of Zimmerman because of his previous 911 call. They compared that to the screams.

(50,349 posts)as evidence (I certainly hope so). The analyses done were not done at the behest of the police, they were done for the Orlando Sentinel.

(134 posts)Trayvon was obviously a trained ventriloquist.
He actually threw his voice while beating Zimmerman's skull into the sidewalk!
He did this to mock him. "Help, help".

I'd feel better about it I'd they'd had a copy of Martin's voice to analyze as well. As it is this still bodes well for discrediting Zimmerman.

(134 posts)Surely must have a voicemail or something.

(28,158 posts)However, the Orlando Sentinel doesn't seem to have bothered to get one for comparison. I wish they would have taken the extra time to help seal this up once and for all.

(134 posts)Surely he left a greeting on his voicemail that his cell carrier could provide.

(28,158 posts)This is really just a teaser to what the FBI will say. Zimmerman has pretty much been excluded. Since there were only the two of them our there, it's now just a matter of time until the last bit of doubt is removed.
