This thread won't be around long enough for me to eat more than a handful anyway.
I could really go for a box of Junior Mints.
I'd eat the hell out of those.

(146,317 posts)DU has lots of groups, most of which have very little traffic. Groups are not DU. They are special interest forums within the DU system.
Perhaps you haven't been to the Barack Obama Group lately. Go take a look. There hasn't been a post there since Sunday, as of the time of this reply in this thread.

I made a comment about President Obama that was not flattering

after learning that was not allowed... I did not pursue it.

I guess it is a praise forum only

(146,317 posts)There are dozens of DU Groups. Most have some specific subject matter, and some don't allow negative posts about whatever the subject is. That one is one of those.
It's a favorite target of some, but still is a little-used part of DU.
The people who use it are fans of President Obama.

(1,819 posts)There is a big difference between being a fan of the President and being able to disagree with him in any arena. I am a fan but I am not slavish in my devotion and would think people who are believe the President needs their protection from words. I love my dad, I don't agree with him all the time. Not agreeing with him can be said for my President too.

(1,819 posts)Most forums I've seen, have a certain kind of psychoses. Some times it seems there is so much enmity, it fails to function as a reliable place for information. Many people use these types areas to allow their darker demons out, the anonymity assures no repercussions other than a few easily ignored words. No matter how familiar they act, for the most part, they are neither familiar or friends. I have been here much longer than my posts would indicate, I use this as a stop on my daily news scan and one time someone said something I wanted to respond to, I signed up. I never expected to be greeted with open arms, I really don't need to be friends, just civil. Unless you are looking for a place with restrictions on what you can and not say, I would avoid the darkness of President forum and come into the light.

That's the same as pointing to the Men's Group as all that is wrong with men on this site when that group gets barely 5 posts a week, if that. The BOG group is pretty low traffic compared to the main discussion forums here. Most folks don't even venture outside of the Big Topics.

(30,439 posts)I decided to take a look there.
That group has very little traffic. On average there is maybe one new post a day.
Who knew a group forum with such little traffic could cause so much consternation on DU.
It's rather amusing.

But of course people who believed his rhetoric, particularly on national security, are likely to be a bit worked up.

I think he has been way t soft on Wall Street and the banks.
Reasonable people can disagree on these and other issues and criticism the president should certainly be debated.

(20,600 posts)I mean, I'm puzzled that anyone who hates DU or any web site would spend any time at all there. When I see sites I dislike, I simply don't go to them.

(4,876 posts)and I have been called a hater. I've also been a member of DU since 2004. (my old handle was Walldude). I came here when the Bush Presidency was at it's worst, I made many valuable friends here and have had many great times.
But I don't come here too often these days, too much infighting, lots of time wasted on calling people "cheerleaders" (of which there are a few, but just a few) and haters (of which there are a few, but just a few).
Until Obama was elected I had no idea this site was for people who only support every single thing the Democrats and President have done. Damn shame too. I understand if thats what people want, and apparently it is. I also had no idea that there were certain people I was under obligation to hate, because they too don't look out there window and agree with everything that is going on.
The bottom line is I come back every once in awhile hoping that someone has figured out that it's actually the Republicans who are the opposition.

(6,904 posts)I can understand why a RW site would encourage attacks on Obama. When those sites are echoed by a supposedly Democratic site, there is something wrong. Since most of the things blamed on the President took place before his re election in 2012, it's pretty astonishing that many on DU believe that voters who supported him were wrong.
If most of those who voted for Obama in 2012 were DINO's and those who voted for Romney were RW Republicans, then the Republicans have won. We can just throw up our hands and go home.

(11,175 posts)That's by making no effort to assess the overall content of the site, and instead focusing with hypersensitivity on the posts that are critical of some specific action (or inaction) by Obama.
Do you have any RW friends? Tell them you found this great anti-Obama site that they'll love. Give them the URL for DU. See whether they, in fact, love it. My guess is they won't.
