The male protagonist is a lonesome, cynical sexist who's trying to change to win over the female protagonist, an outspoken feminist he's secretly in love with. (Plus a background-story about God and the devil bickering with each other and trying to cope with their fanatic fanboys.)

(16,423 posts)Not those extremist rantings by women which were posted in the other thread on DU. I mean a real case where you were treated differently by women because you were a man and not a woman?

(5,917 posts)it is hypocritical to rage about mysogyny and then make fun of misandry regardless of examples

You know, I can find hundreds if not thousands of women who've received threats of physical violence, rape and death for the crime of being a woman on the Internet with an opinion. If you can show me a single man who's received anything like this from women? Just one? Then you might have some sort of point. As it is? You're really being rather ridiculous.

(5,917 posts)"misandry is what is said when people's feelings are hurt". not only are you wrong but sexist as well
Spider Jerusalem
(21,786 posts)Just one. I can show you dozens or hundreds of examples of women who've received that, from men. If "misandry" is as much of a problem as you claim? You should be able to find just ONE example of it where a man was on the receiving end.
leftyohiolib
(5,917 posts)but that isnt the point since that isnt what im saying.
Spider Jerusalem
(21,786 posts)here, some numbers for you, US homicides, 2010: Number of women killed by men: 1698 (of which 603 were murders of wives by their husbands). Number of men killed by women: 405 (of which 110 were murders of husbands by their wives). So: Four times as many women killed by men as men killed by women, and almost six times as many women killed by their spouses as men.
leftyohiolib
(5,917 posts)i said or what the this little thread was about but you got your numbers out so now that that is done maybe you want to go back and try to figure out what was being said and you can address that if you feel like it.
Spider Jerusalem
(21,786 posts)There' I've addressed that. Feel better now? Women killing men isn't "misandry" because we don't live in a culture that teaches women that they're better than men and that they have a right to expect to treat men like property; we don't live in a society where men interacting in online spaces feel the need to hide their gender; we don't live in a society where men have to worry about whether it's safe to walk home, or whether someone may have put something in their drink, or whether it's safe to be alone in a room with this person they've just met; we don't live in a society where fundamentalist preachers tell men it's their duty to be subservient to their wives...I could keep going, but you probably get the point.
leftyohiolib
(5,917 posts)misogyny ,or the hatred of women, is as real as misandry ,or the hatred of men, men who are abused by their women are as fearful of them as you describe. people who find abuse hilarious has a problem and your finding misandry hilarious makes you guilty of it.
btw there are ways to safe guard yourself if you dont feel safe walking home get a cab afraid someone might spike your punch dont go out/leave without a friend. afraid to be alone in a room with someone you just met why would you do that anyway. fundamentalists tell their men crap well you know not to date a fundamentalist man. these victim scenarios you describe are self made . i know that men do abuse women but women do it to men and to deny that IS misandry

(38,187 posts)she is at fault for not being careful enough. Why do you think women should have to walk around on eggshells our entire lives? That's bullshit. It is another way of saying she was asking for it and deserved it for not walking on eggshells so as to not attracted the attention of rapists.

(68,868 posts)this is textbook rape apologism, victim-blaming misogyny
it's men like you that try to force women to wear burkas.
This is really indefensible. Hopefully the misogynists are over at discussionist and won't be able to bail you out for this rancid, toxic misogyny.

(38,187 posts)she was asking for it. Apparently, women should walk on eggshells and accept that as our lot in life.

I think understanding why misogyny is a much bigger problem then misandry is in our culture is a great place for anyone new to feminism to start. It's like the difference between racism and "reverse racism".
AverageJoe90
(10,745 posts)It's like the difference between racism and "reverse racism".
Well, just one problem with this: "Reverse racism" doesn't actually exist, because for there to be a "reverse", it would require that so-called "normal" racism be the exclusive property of a single group. But it never has been.....no, not even in this country(in other words, yes, anyone can be racist on a personal level, at least).
Hatred against men is real, though. It may be quite rare but unlike "reverse racism", it does exist.
