General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCan anyone sell me on Discussionist? Anyone at all?
When it first started, I went there for about two minutes to look at it. Didn't catch my interest.
As people continued to talk about it, yesterday I figured I'd have a second look.
So I went. I looked it over for about two minutes.
Still no interest.
Am I missing something here?

(370 posts)That's inspite of several appeals by e-mail to the powers that be......
I keep being told I'll get a confirming e-mail that never arrives.
I thought this appeal might help.....

(20,600 posts)and even compare it to hate sites like stormfront. Which in my opinion is nonsense.
I think it just makes some duers who have rigid, go team like mindsets, very uncomfortable that they can't control the conversation or the membership over there, that's my take.

(24,461 posts). . . but others might have a higher tolerance for Dunning-Krugertarian defense of failed and discredited 1%er friendly policies, deflection, projection, victim-blaming, victim-denying, logical fallacies, red-baiting, blatant sexism and insufferable assholery than I do.
I have yet to read a cogent statement, argument or rebuttal from any of Discussionist's wingdings. Then again, one could argue that debating failure is giving failure more of a platform than it needs to have.

(102,291 posts)I just can't get past the continuous angry tone over there on so many threads. As though continued hammering of talking points, along with anti-Democrat accusations will somehow win arguments. It is like the most vitriolic gungeon posters were allowed to take over in terms of tone., but with added racism, misogyny and extreme ignorance thrown in.

(9,610 posts)You get what you are sold, all views welcome to post. Here, we are supposed to be a Democratic site, but in recent years it has morphed into "Democratic Party" site regardless of whether the party or it's members even hold traditional democratic (left leaning) values.
Discussioist does need more members, as the traffic level is not as high over there. This should improve with time.

(21,020 posts)above me have stated, it's what you make of it.
Actually it started out somewhat calmly. People were displaying better manners than they do here.
Of course, there will be the occasional 15 year old boy mentality, but for the most part, people have tried to be civil...amazing given the disparity of opinions.
In the last few days, though, it seems that things have gotten quite rude.
and it's not just rudeness from the other side.
Just last night I saw some obnoxiously rude remarks made by either a present, or former, DUer woefully lacking in basic self-control.
Things aren't always a bed of roses here, as you no doubt well know. And while some of the trouble over there has come from the other side, it's really embarrassing to see a lot of it also come from THIS side. People working out their anger issues. If they didn't care about being banned from DU, they're doubly not going to care about being banned for acting like jackasses at Discussionist.
So...no.
There's nothing I can say to sell Discussionist to anyone who thinks it sucks, and quite frankly, I wouldn't even waste my time.

(102,291 posts)are guilty of that escalation
I will continue to occasionally check in to see if that changes. But, I try hard in real life to avoid toxic, perpetually angry personalities and I surely don't intend to engage in it online.

(145,303 posts)They are not very bright and it is fun to poke holes in their claims. Most of the time, the conservatives just repeat talking points from Fox News without checking or caring about the facts. When challenged about these claims, the conservatives really do not know what to do other than name call.

(7,099 posts)If someone wants to post there do it. If they don't, don't. All the drama surrounding people here posting about if they'll post there is kind of silly.
