Fort Snelling buildings converted to homeless Veteran housing
MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota's homeless veterans will soon have new place to live. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Thursday at Fort Snelling for the conversion of abandoned buildings into housing units.
A public/private project is to transform five historic buildings, including former horse stables and equipment barns, into 58 units of housing. They will be studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments to be opened in spring 2015.
The $17.2 million in financing is under the auspices of Common Bond Communities. $9.3 million of the money is from UnitedHealth Group. $5.5 million comes from Housing infrastructure Bonds through the Minnesota Housing Agency.
"What could be more important than assuring that our veterans who have served this country so courageously have a dignified place to call home?" asked Paul Fate, CEO of Common Bond Communities.

(6,896 posts)most military bases etc around here are pretty unhealthy.
I couldnt make anything out of that link myself.
congrats.
I believe some people like myself would do the math and wonder how much more could be done with less.
In our area they built and failed to open a veterans home for a very long period of time.
