Starry Messenger
(32,342 posts)would probably just solidify the commodification of women and their bodies. I've never been to Europe, so can't speak to that, but we already have a society here in the US where we are treated like human refuse.
Personally, I think it would just up sex trafficking even more.

(18 posts)TW: post may be too graphic for some to contend with while they rationalize prostitution of women
...you might consider reading up on an Interpol scandal of sorts wherein the very agency charged with freeing those kidnapped and/or exploited into sexual slavery internationally were actually turning a blind eye to it. I reference 'Interpol'.
Also, various mobs in our own country, from various countries, routinely bring women in from all over the world to be sold right here kn the states. Sexual trafficking rings have been busted in suburban neighborhoods. You see, the issue that the evil feministisms are and have been trying to get our society to discuss honestly HAVEN'T been dealt with, like some claim.
One state in our country legalized brothels. Craigslist ftw on sexual trafficking by various gangs.
Now, I want you to honestly imagine young males being sexually exploited and objectified by women, young and old, in every single exact way men do to women WORLD WIDE and THEN tell me...how ok would you be with that? Tell the fing truth dude, to everyone and yourself. If your sons bodies, and your body, could be owned, used, beaten, shipped around in trunks, tied up to a small cot for 10hrs every day while strangers grunted on you, slapped you, pulled your hair, bit you, shoved you 30 at a time in containers, used you in films and put them online, handcuffed you, hooked you on junk, and left your body in bits out in a desert when he/you was too used up for profit (cause he got gross ugly passed around too much at 15, plus the food and ER bills...more money out than coming in, you know)....you'd be ok with all that? Because you have to go there FIRST boss, before you start glibly talking about 'legalizing prostitution'!
Hey, maybe that's too much brutal reality for you?
Alright, let's play 'nice guy/strip club'. You're cool with that, right?,Driving down the road towards those nude neon lights? That big sign n the side of a busy road, the one near schools and parks and...EVERYTHING....in big, block letters says "NUDE GIRLS". Those are ok? No big deal?
Then you wouldn't mind if I opened up a club, for fully nude....BOYS? Right? That's no big deal.
"NUDE BOYS".
Now, be honest again: What are the real odds MY club won't get sued, shut down, or burnt down before yours? In fact, what are the odds that sign would stay up for more than an hour?
Sorry, but this pseudo-liberal horsesh't pisses me off. And get mad at me if it blows your hair back, but I'm just trying to emphasize how FAR some really have to go before they can even begin to claim they 'get it' when women say they've had enough of all this. So, please think next time before you start offering 'fixes' for some strangers sex drives. Youlve NO idea what strangerbro has in mind for that woman prostitute you hope to give him access to.
Again, if it seems 'harsh', it's because I really believe some guys just don't get HOW harsh it is.
This is a time for everyone to learn. One is: don't tell women, or yourself for sh't sakes, that the solution is to be willing to 'legally' sell their bodies to possibly murderous and mentally ill men.

(21,786 posts)It just encourages trafficking of women as sex workers from Eastern Europe. There's a reason why a lot of places are considering the so-called "Nordic model" of criminalising men who buy sex. And there are calls to change the laws in countries where prostitution has been decriminalised or legalised, like Germany and the Netherlands. See here for instance: http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/human-trafficking-persists-despite-legality-of-prostitution-in-germany-a-902533.html

Secondly, since they treat women as status symbols, a quick visit with a prostitute doesn't satisfy their keeping up with the Joneses issue. That's my take on it, anyway.

I thought about prostitution too, until I read an early quote here from PUAH that lumped "Thai wives" in with prostitutes as being in the category of undesirable and contemptible last resorts. I got a cold chill thinking of the raw danger any woman would be in if she were alone with any of those twisted men.

0rganism
(23,971 posts)the underlying theme is the freaking entitlement these "men" think they have, the sense that in some way they deserve sexual idolization and servicing by all women and it's somehow someone else's fault they're lonely and unsatisfied. And the way they reinforce each-other's delusions... it's a circle jerk of confused proto-adolescent sexuality and narcissistic personality disorders. These people need psychiatric help, urgently.

I was disgusted to find this one last night:

It just gets worse and worse. I knew there were individual men in this world who think that way, but I had no idea they were congregating online and patting each other on the back for who could be the most misogynist. That is truly disgusting. I wonder if the hosts of some of these sites have policies against this sort of thing.

(24,853 posts)If I know someone is a murderer, or believe he/she may be planning a murder... and I choose to hide their identity, what does that make me? An accessory. If SOMEONE who posted on that site she didn't name RAPES or MURDERS... Whose shoulders should bear that load?
The "lumped with" comes from the recent change in context in the use of misogyny. Within the last two or three weeks, it's been used in the same context as "white privilege". Since I've never been pulled over for "driving while black", I'm a beneficiary of white privilege. A post yesterday said though I might not have pulled the trigger in reference to these murders, I'm part of the "problem".
So someone has insight as to where dickheads like Roger are posting, and chooses to publicize her KNOWLEDGE of said posts, but hide THEIR identities... to what end?
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)what in thee world do you think you are going to do about it- that you couldn't have done yesterday? go and report it to the police, loads of people do. If it is not a specific credible threat, the cops aren't going to help you. It doesn't matter a whit she isn;t naming names- you have links to 5-6 hate sites on page 1 of GD- if you actually want them. Get to it, and tell us how it went!
What kind of twisted logic makes you doing nothing, all her fault? You always could, and still can do something- and by something, I don't mean raging at a woman and blaming her for your failures.
Not catching ANY of the irony in this, are you? Your failure to act is not her fault. Get over it.
If you keep sitting on your hands and condemn others who are actually publicizing the issue- yes, your are becoming art of the problem.

(53 posts)It's truly appalling that in the 21st century, males in this country still cling on to such old-fashioned and antiquated ideas about women in general. But who am I kidding? After all, only 50-60 years ago, women were expected to basically be slaves to their husbands, staying home all day doing housework, instead of going out into the real world and pursue their own careers. We really have a long way to go in regards to women's rights.
