Mixcloud: a little bad news for my DU listeners
Due to a new broadcast agreement with SoundExchange, American listeners can no longer view the tracklists of Mixcloud performances, even if they listen to a given performance in its entirety.
The upside is that when you listen to one of my cloudcasts, every artist you listen to will get a little extra cash in their monthly check from ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, or whomever handles their account.
The downside is that if you hear a song that you absolutely MUST OWN on vinyl, CD, MP3, or whatever, you're fresh out of luck, because the tracklist will not display for you. Ever. I could try to get around this by posting the tracklist in the liner notes or narrating future cloudcasts, but I'm not sure if SoundExchange would appreciate either strategy. (Maybe a dedicated Twitter account?)
In the meantime, I have a few performances on Mixcloud that I'm rather proud of. Some are pensive, others are scary. Some are serene, others are quirky. My cloudcasts offer everything from Lustmord to The Four Tops and dang near everything in between. Swans, Laibach, Boredoms, John Zorn, Laura Ainsworth, Yma Sumac, Stars of the Lid, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails - each cloudcast is like a box of chocolates. Dig in.
And if you hear something you really like and want to add to your personal music library, let me know which cloudcast it's in and I'll try to help you as best as I can.
Here's all of my Mixcloud performances at one easy link - please listen and enjoy.
