Edward Snowden has offered to help Brazil investigate US spying on its soil in exchange for political asylum, in an open letter from the NSA whistleblower to the Brazilian people published by the Folha de S Paulo newspaper.

"I've expressed my willingness to assist where it's appropriate and legal, but, unfortunately, the US government has been working hard to limit my ability to do so," Snowden said in the letter ...

With Brian Williams, just the other day, Snowden said he has got nothing to do with the files any more, he gave them away and they are now others responsibility and now he says this, that HE has more documents to release.

Unless he was quoted wrong, but doubt it, seeing as Big Fat Lies are a norm for that group of Libertarians.

From the second article you linked there is a link to an open letter to the people of Brazil. Maybe he thinks the open letter to the people counts as an application?

"Snowden's temporary asylum in Russia will expire in August and he cannot return to the US because his US passport has been revoked."

Can't return to USA because his passport's been revoked? Oh, is that the only reason?

As for the asylum claim, RT provides much more info (sorry RT haters, couldn't find a better source).

My asylum here runs out in August. If Brazil were to offer me asylum, I would be more than happy to accept,” said Snowden, maintaining he had already filed an application for asylum last year. When told during the interview that the Brazilian government claims it never received an application for asylum, Snowden responded, “That’s news to me.”

“When I was in the [Moscow] airport, I sent applications to various countries. Brazil was one of them. It was an official application.”
