(14,881 posts)going 4 wide to try to make up ground is too much.
If he was going to keep him on the rail, he needed to keep him up front. I think he tried rating him because I noticed in both the Derby and Preakness, other horses were closing on him at the end. So he was trying to save him for the distance, but once he got boxed in it was all over.

Did you hear his owner? He was really pissed. As someone in the know, do you think he had a point about only Kentucky Derby racers should be able to run in the Preakness and the Belmont?

(1,850 posts)and that would be on the jockey and/or trainer. The horse may not be aware of all the hubbub, but the humans sure were. Can't help but think that could have some effect.

(14,881 posts)but one thing that happens is that when there is a possible triple crown winner, sometimes horses get entered in the in the Belmont for the express purpose of stopping them. The field just gets too crowded so his owner has a point.

(2,785 posts)but honestly I don't think he could've won that race. If he got to do it over 10 times. He is a really good horse, but he just didn't have that one big burst of speed when he needed it. Big Brown was alot better than him and if is shoe didn't come loose he probably would've won. Hopefully one day soon we will get a triple crown winner.
